Sugestions for Jukebox based on needs
« on: June 12, 2008, 07:19:40 pm »
I'm a bit overwhelmed with the amount of jukebox software available and I was hoping someone could narrow my search based on my needs. I've tried a few so far, Uncle T's and SK's seemed ok, eJukebox was nice, but not free.  Basically I want to emulate the internet jukebox you would find at a bar.  My interface is touchscreen.  I need to be able to easily access a large library of songs and I need it to be easy enough that someone at a party could add a song without a lesson.  Any suggestions? I'm not totally against paying for it if it's perfect and reasonably priced.  Thanks.

Hello shredso.  I to have been working with many jukebox applications in the past year or so trying to decide which is best for my needs.  I come to the conclusion that for my needs, UncleT's and a new application (early development) but really nice and the one I am currently using is TouchTrax, (www.touchtrax.com).  UncleT's software is geared towards a physical layout (specific directory structure) while TT is more geared towards reading from the mp3 taggs.  I think setting up TT is a little more tedious,  but when one gets the taggs correct, TT is really nice.  Browse the websites, www.touchtrax.com and http://unclet.arcadecontrols.com/Jukebox/.  Find the one that best suites your needs.  Both are nice applications but I think TT is more geared towards a touchscreen, which I am using and love it at the moment.  Keep in mind, TT is still in early development.  There will be some new enhancments coming out soon.  The end of this month I believe.  Thanks, Shane

The biggest problem with TouchTrax is one that plagued PCJB (By the same author), it doesn't play well with large collections. Some users have reported this problem on the TT website, one guy left it 3 days building the library and it still crapped out. The software may ultimately be quite good but right now it sems like you will paying for what is still beta software. You may be better using UNCLES T's and switching to TT if you wish once the bugs are ironed out.

I have similar problems with my own software (MultiJuke). But it seen it more a tag problem that is still not fixed yet. It seen v2.4 tags is still badly supported in my own software and might crash too (hopefully fix that before releasing MultiFE, but not a high priotity). It a known bug here.

But it can been the same issues seen in various other software, like Touch Tune? I do NOT checked it.

But that why I recommered to fix our tags to v2.3, which is the most supported version.

There is a wiki list of all software (see in sticky thread), so I allways let you test all software out here. Freebox is a another software you can tryout as well mine.

Decade Old Work: MultiFE, ArcadeMusicBox
Today Works: Various Spectrum Next games from Rusty Pixels and html5 games.

I just started using XLobby and I really like it. If you want to check it out use the link below. The software is now commercial but the link below is to the last version before it went commercial. If you read the thread for mountains bartop he made for his dad this is the software he is using.

I'm a freebox bigot because it works for music, video, karaoke, supports led signs, and the author (Barry) is constantly on his forum working on enhancements and fixes.

Freebox is really only for touchscreen though.  I had a party recently with 50 people and they all loved the interface, they were able to add to the queue, and they all had a great time.

SK was my choice earlier because it didn't need tags.  But it's dead, and you really should tag your music.  it makes using any other kind of interface easier (tversity, orb, etc)

Freebox has some very talented people creating skins as well.  There are holiday skins in development too.

I've seen the xlobby posts here recently.  I'll probably check it out.

The free version stopped after version 2 (IIRC), but there is a trial available.

I also have to recommend Freebox, it is well worth the $25 for it.  IF you can use the one at your bar you can use Freebox
I b**ch. People listen!!
