Mala scaled layouts vs. LCD fixed resolution
« on: June 12, 2008, 02:56:41 pm »
Hey All

So I'm currently using Mala on an LCD with a 1900x1200 fixed resolution.  I like the feel of the Game Launcher layout, which scales the snap and is used as a full screen background to the game list.  I've been messing around with various setting and Mala's layout editor trying to figure out why scrolling through game lists feels so clunky and slow.

Sure, I can mess with the delay time before displaying an image, and that makes scrolling through large list a bit more manageable, but when you finally get to the game you want, the picture updates, you start narrow it in further.. and this narrowing process is frustrating due to the image delay.

Next I set the Game Launcher layout to be a fixed 800x600, which never goes full screen, but it's obvious that much of the lag is now gone with list selection.  This has me curious to ask if there isn't a better way for the layout scaling to take place, so this lag goes away completely.  Any ideas here if this is fixable?  Bug perhaps?   :dunno

If I use any other image viewing software, set it to full screen and tell it to scale up images, you can jog through every file in that folder w/ no delay or hiccup.  I'd imagine there's a lot going on with a layout, but I dont' think image scaling should kill performance this noticeably.

Feel free to shoot me suggestions here!
Thanks

So beyond setting my MALA layout to a smaller resolution then the LCD's fixed resolution, I'm pretty much out of luck here?  The side effects of such are fuzzy looking text and extra screen blinking when a game starts.

Thanks

I used to use the Game Launcher layout and was happy for the delay on snapshot image display to keep scrolling speed OK.

But long term the code may be changed to try and speed up things
