WTB: Board with onboard sound/video
« on: June 02, 2003, 06:36:54 pm »
Looking for decent motherboard, but with onboard sound/video.  Here's the catch: I need the sound to work in DOS.

Old boards are fine, I'm going to be using this in a VAntAGE bartop cabinet.

I have an epox mobo with a 800mhz duron BUT I am not sure if everything onboard works in DOS(how am I supposed to know ???).
If you want I can post a picture..its got onboard video/audio and accepts upto 1gb ram(2x512mb).

That's a LOT more pony power than I was looking for.  I'm looking for a high end 486, or a lower class pentium type machine.  I've got a 486 board now that runs great, but has no onboard sound.  I might be able to play with shielding a soundcard so it wouldn't short out on the monitor, but that's only if I can't find a board like I'm describing here.

I have a DELHI-3 board out of an eMachine 266.  Onboard sound and RAGE IIc video.  I have used this in DOS but it's been a while (you will have to download the drivers as I do not have them).  I could toss a Pentium 233 in there and give it to you for $10 + shipping.  I think I have some RAM to toss in there too.  Let me know if you are interested.

Oh yea.  The only real down side to this board is you can't turn off the eMachines BIOS splash screen.  That drove me nuts  :o.

On second thought, if you cover the shipping cost you can have the board.  I think I actually have 2 of them you can have.  My wife is getting on to me for having too much computer junk.  :P

Heh...me too.

How much would shipping be?  Where'd you get the drivers, from the eMachine site?

Yeah, you need to get the serial number that was on the case though. And then (if you're unlucky like me) email them with your serial info to find out where the legacy drivers are, since half their legacy machines fail to be found through their driver lookup.

I haven't had any problems like that.  www.e4all.info has all the specs. for the board.  I just did a search for a DOS driver for the Crystal CS4235 audio the board uses.  Took less than 5 minutes for find a good driver.  I used www.driversguide.com to find the drivers.  There seems to be an unusual ammount of information about theses boards.  I was really suprised anyone even wasted their time with eMachines stuff.  ;)

As for shipping cost, I need you zip.  I tried to check UPS without it, but no go :(.  I couldn't imagine shipping will be much, they are MicroATX boards.  Here's some info on the board http://www.e4all.info/motherboards/delhi3.htm

Quick estimate off their websites looks like this:

Dimentions 12.5inx9.75inx2.5in @ 2lbs. (estimated weight)

USPS Priority = $7.85
USPS Parcel = $5.77
UPS Ground = $7.00

It's up to you.  The place I use for shipping uses just about any service you can think of.  I'll pack everything up and run by the shipping place for a definate price if you are interested (that's what I wanted to do, but I didn't have time :))  Just let me know.

Oh, I'm leaving the CPU Heatsinks out to cut down on weight.  Their yours if you want them, just trying to save some $$$.

Sounds fine to me.  Let's go with USPS Parcel.

E-mail me your address and I'll get it sent out.  I'm leaving town Sunday thru Tuesday, so I'll try and send it out before then.  I got everything packed up last night. :)
