MK2 cab conversion, a few questions
« on: June 08, 2008, 01:05:08 pm »
Hey folks, it's been awhile since I've posted. I took a hiatus on my mame project (had our first child). Now that the needy infancy stage is over with, I'm ready to get rolling again.

Computer, wiring and all that stuff isn't a problem for me, but woodworking is. I was looking to get a cab from this guy:
http://www.geocities.com/custombuiltarcades/, but it's been over a week and I haven't gotten a response to my emails.

My backup plan is to get a MK2 cab and convert it. I found a cab in good shape with a working monitor. I don't want to use the original joysticks in the MK2 cab, and I'll probably add a few more buttons.

My question is, will I need anything special if I wanted to use new controls and the existing monitor? I'm assuming I'll need to get a new Jamma harness and hack a VGA cable to hook it to my video card.  Do I need to purchase the ArcadeVGA card? If I use new controls, my KeyWiz should work with no issue?

Any other things I need to consider if I'm converting a MK2 cab to a MAME machine?

This will be my first shot at a MAME machine, so any for conversion are appreciated!

Also, would it be easier to replace the cab monitor with a TV (I have a spare that I can use), or would setting this guy up to use the original monitor be a fairly easy task?

You'd need an arcadeVGA card, interface (i-pac) and that's about it.
