Wanted: donor cab for MAME project - Tuscaloosa, AL
« on: June 07, 2008, 09:12:13 pm »
Hi all,

I've been reading these forums (and sometimes posting) for a very long time. I've been "into" MAME for years, but only with desktop controllers I've built. Guess what: It's time to build a full-sized standup cab! I need a donor cabinet.

What I'd like it to have: decent cosmetic condition, maybe some nice generic/classic side art, large enough to hold a 21" CRT PC monitor, with all the glass, bezels, t-molding, marquee, etc intact.

I do not need/want a monitor or any of the original game's electronic guts, so a gutted cab would be fine provided it has all/most of the misc bits and pieces mentioned above.

I am in Tuscaloosa, Alabama -- anyone within driving distance of me have a cab that fits the bill?

Thanks,
Eric.

Buddy, you're in the wrong state! Move to Texas! I have 3 empty cabs right now...

I know, man... I lived in Chicago until last year... I'm sure up there I could have snatched up a great cab with minimal searching (if only I had the time and money to build a cab back then). Anyway, thanks for the response. I am willing to drive a little bit if necessary. Atlanta is a nearby city that I travel to all the time. Any cheap MAME-able cabs in Atlanta?

Eric.

have you checked the Atlanta Craigslist page?  I've seen some decent cabs on there before

I live in Birmingham right next to you, and let me tell you I have not had much luck finding a cab around here, so ended up building my own.

A couple of places to check around town are Birmingham vending, which is located downtown on the westside.  Not a good side of town, but they do have alot of old cabs from what I've heard.

Check on bham craiglist, there were a few cabs there in good condition for around 250-350 working.

Also check atl craiglist as they have alot more to choose from.

I also know there is a guy in Sterret alabama which is located off of hwy 280 that is a major collector.  He often sells cabs.  I don't have his contact anymore, but I believe his name is Mike stitham or something like that.  I found him on klov.com

I used to live in Huntsville and found a great cab on eBay that was outside of Nashville.  It was a converted Centipede cabinet that was JAMMA-ed out to be a Double Dragon II.  It was a complete unit but just with a dead monitor.  I picked it up for $56.  Best deal I have ever found.  So good cabs are out there in the South every once in a while...
