Not sure if this is the right part of the forum to ask.. but anyway..

I want to use two LEDs that require a resistor down to 3.5v from 5v (from one of the standard boards, gpwiz, etc).

Now is it simply a matter of soldering the resistor between the 5v and the LED + ?  Also, I'm a little concerned about the heat, will that be an issue ?

The resistor value will depend on how much the current draws.

You cannot connect the LEDs in series as the total voltage will be greater than the source voltage, you will need to connect them in parallel.

Find out the current rating of your LEDs and use .:this:. calculator to find out what resistor(s) to use. It will even design the circuit for you and provide you with a wiring diagram.

The resistor is normally soldered between the cathode (negative leg) and the - of the power supply.

Heat wont be an issue in this scenario.
