Bulk Microswitch Source?
« on: June 05, 2008, 04:03:43 am »
I've acquired about 50 pushbuttons with no microswitches.  Can anyone direct me to the cheapest source for getting a bulk amount of Cherry switches, say a box of 100 or so?

I don't know about bulk but any local shop should have them for a quid or so.
Google around, you shouldn't have difficulty finding them :)

I dont really think he wants to spend $200 on micros  ;D

Im sure i saw a thread on here recently about bulk switches but I have searched and can't seem to find it.

Looking at Happs site they do 100+ cherrys for $0.83 each..

Looking at the small discount Happ give it would make sense just to buy 50 switches if thats all you are after.

It may be worth PMing divemaster to see what he can get them for.

Ill keep having a google to see if I can find them cheaper anywhere (I have too much spare time at work today  ;))

If you need to replace them try to find omron brand or better, cherry switches are good but there is better stuff around. you should be able to find them at any radio shack type store.

If you do want to use cherrys you would probably be best going direct to one of Cherrys sales reps or distributors. You can find your nearest one here.

If you decide to go for another brand remember the actuating force of the standard Cherrys is 75g. However you dont have to buy a switch with the same actuating force, you could always buy a bunch with a lighter or heavy feel to suit your needs.

I've tried Yenox, Omron, Zippy, and a few other unlabeled switches and I think I prefer the Cherry brand, maybe just out of habit.  I did Google for an answer, but most places want a dollar per switch.  I looked at Cherry's site, but the matter of finding a distributor seemed daunting.  I was considering Happ's version of a discount at .83 cents a piece for 100, but knowing that Happ usually overcharges for everything I figured there might be cheaper sources out there I could find through the community.  It just seems like for such a small switch with very little comprising it the price should be something like 50-60 cents a piece.

I've got a place here in the twin cities called Ax-Man
http://www.ax-man.com/

and they have a pretty wide range of microswitches available.  They don't do mailorder, but I'm planning on going there tomorrow and can take some pics of what they have for you.  I know I've picked up a few cherry switches there before, but I don't recall the price.

I'll post back here tomorrow and let you (and everyone else) know.  I'd be happy to fill a few orders-the place is located only a couple miles from me.

Thanks for the links.  I did actually search eBay before asking, and I considered that first auction for the Matsushita switches.  They'd be good for my SNK rotary stick, but as pushbutton switches I don't know if they'd work since they're levered, and they're riveted shut so it's a chore to get the lever out.  If the ones in the joystick are any indication, they also require a heavy actuation, which I'd like to avoid.

The second auction seems like a possibility, except I have been burned by ordering things on eBay from out of the country.

The third one has the same problem, as well as shipping being 37 dollars.

EDIT:  I also found this auction 10 Omron Switches for $2.99

I'm tempted to buy a couple of boxes just because it's such a good price, even though they're levered and not what I was really looking for.

meh.
they had a lot of different kinds of switches, but everything was $1.00 each.  You're better off somewhere else.

We can do Japanese Sanwa switches for $0.70 each for 50. They have actuators but these can easily be removed.

We dont have bulk Cherry switches at the moment but I could look at getting some. At the moment all the Cherry switches we have are paired with pushbuttons. The only Cherry switches I would use are those which are stamped "Happ Controls" as these have been approved by Happ QC. I have seen some terrible Cherry switches in the past, some which have a really long bounce time and even some which bounce "forever" when the switch is held down and vibrated slightly.
One issue with Cherry switches is that they have plants all over the world and each has different quality. In fact the same spec switches from different Cherry plants are completely different colors and design, and quality.
Why would you want Cherry when you can get Sanwa? Although the spring pressure on the Sanwa switches we have is slightly higher than the Happ Cherry switches so maybe you are looking for a low-pressure switch.

Andy this switches is the same how use JLW (j-stick) witch medium 27mm plain lever?

You plan to sell buttons Sanwa or Seimitsu? OBSN30 or PS14KN? and Seimitsu Joystick?
there are no good sources japan parts in euro, or high prices or high ship. I would prefer to buy all in one shop.  You would have a lot of customers purchasers from zone Schengen. I like your service and dispatching DHL, but Your assortment be base at only on classic parts.

We still have lots of the SAIA X3C5 switches and I might get these on our site in bulk packs.

Yes the Sanwa are the same as the J-Stik switches

We came close to selling the OBSN30s a couple of times. The reason we have not, is that they are outrageously expensive. We worked out the inventory cost of holding an adequate stock of these in various colors and the economics just does not add up, a high outlay on a low-turnover item. If there was only one type, it would not be a problem, but holding, say, six colors would be necessary. Seimitsu sticks we just dont have any source for getting them and I dont think they will sell direct.

I bought in RS2006
http://www.rs2006.co.jp/
this was very cheap 180Yen but they accept only very large orders (>100.000Yen). official sanwa price is 200yen (2$), RS2006 sell all parts seimitsu and sanwa price is very, very low

Lizard Lick sell sanwa button for 2,5$ I think that then very good price.
many men buy it to AS under consoles.
