Front End for Vertical/Horizontal???
« on: June 02, 2003, 02:02:36 pm »

Ok, I'm finally just about done with my Mame cabinet.  I'll post a link to my website once I have the new pictures posted.  I built a cab with a rotating monitor and a rotating control panel (with three sides - similar idea to 1Up's, but since I started building it around the time he was building his, I ended up with a different design).  Anyway, I am at the point where I got the thing running, which is a bad thing because I am playing it so much I haven't spent the time to completely finish it (need to add side-art, marquee).

Question about front ends - I haven't found one I love and before I go and try to write one myself I'd like to know if something like this exists:  Since I am rotating my screen I'd like a front end that can filter on game orientation (vertical vs. horizontal).  So basically, when I decide to play with the screen vertical, I am only offered vertical games.

I tried Lazarus, I've seen things that indicate it can filter on this - but I don't see a way to do it, mainly because I don't have a game list with orientation included.  Is there a master game list out there that includes orientation and/or a front end that can filter on this?

Thanks!

Doug

EmuTron can operate in vertical or horizontal mode. Currently, it cannot filter /sort games on vertical info, however the next release will be able to. I have been communicating w/ a guy who has a rotating monitor setup where he has configured EmuTron to run both vertically and horizontallly. When he launches a vertical game, He rotates his monitor, after the game, EmuTron automatically returns and displays in vertical mode diplaying vertical only games. When he launches a horizontal game, Emutron returns after the game and launches in horizontal mode. There has been talk about putting in a hardware auto-rotate feature controlled by the FE as well.

I'll check that out.  I did forget a major part of my question.  In addition to filtering on vertical/horizontal is there a front end that will auto rotate the game to vertical/horizontal based on the known orientation of the game?  I know just about all the front ends you can manually go in and set it up to rotate 90 degrees for a vertical game (i.e. Pac Man, Galaga) - but instead of setting that up for the 1500 vertical games (or whatever there are), is there a front end that will "know" to do this?

I get the feeling I'll need to write my own, but that will take away from me actually playing it! :-*
