I'm working on getting everything routed for my control panel, and I plan on having my trackball flush mounted. I haven't ordered my trackball yet, but I would still like to get a head start by routing the recess for the mounting plate. Unfortunately, the mounting view pictures at Happ's website don't seem to make any reference to how thick the plate is, so I don't have any idea how deep I should be looking at routing it. Does anyone here know the thickness of the plate?

I have the non textured mounting plate, and it is 1/16" thick. It might be a good idea to wait an measure off of the one you buy though, I am not sure if they are all the same.

I will be routing out a couple of these this week too, I have only had them for a year or so.  :banghead:

Edit: yeah, it was 1/16" :-[

I think you mean 1/16"?
Remember that you can route a little bit deeper in advance and level up the plate to flush it to the rest of the panel's surface later, by using shims or sanded-down washers.  Though, it is really better to wait for the part if your tools are not on rental.

Completely agree, I don't even try to measure that stuff.  Just route 90 notches at the side of practice wood and keep trying until a corner of the mounting plate fits flush.

I ended up routing 1/8 deep. If it turns out to be more than I need, I can always build it up with washers as NickG suggested.

What worked for me was a metal L square of the same thickness. I sat the router on top so it rested on both sides of the "L" . This left the bit free to lower past the L square just to where it made contact with the surface the square was sitting on.  Got a nice flush fit.
