Compaqt Man MAME cocktail cabinet
« on: March 12, 2002, 05:27:38 am »
Hey everybody...it's been about a month since I posted pics of my cab and it's almost done.

This was it last time I posted:

This is it now:

Many changes have taken place since then. Redid the control panels, top, and bottom/base.
Many coats of paint & lots of sanding. Added controls and homemade graphics. Thanks go
to SirPoonga for his help with aquiring some graphics ;)
Also thanks go to Kyle Lindstrom for his instructions for cocktail cabs. I didn't follow them exactly, but it served as a guide for some dimensions.

I still am painting the top and going to go get glass today so hopefully it will be complete
this week.

Here's some more pics:

Very, very nice.  I dig the graphics and the original Midway coin door.

;D Matt, that is just Awsome. Where did you get the white Plexi? Also is that an Oscar Restrictor plate on the Player 1 panel? Very nice artwork, what is it printed on?

I'm ready to build myself a cocktail. You have really inspired me! ;D

The white plexi is really simple. Just take regular clear plexi and spray one side with cheap white gloss paint. When it dries the opposing side looks perfect. In fact it looks so good, people will swear you bought it. Just do several light coats of white on that one side. Make sure you have it sized first though. If you scratch it while cutting it, the paint will come off.

That is a OSCAR plate & mount on Player 1. I didn't use one on Player 2 (long story).
The mount is covered by the overlay. I didn't want the mount showing. My CPs were sized to accept the mount...exactly 6" wide.

The artwork is printed on AVERY Full-Sheet Labels & laminated with single side laminate then cut out with an exacto knife.

Why did you put in a coin door? Just for looks? If someone (or someone's kid) puts in a coin, won't it fall onto the mother board?

What's the red button on the right side of cp one for?

How does the monitor mount?

Is the yellow paint? If so what color? And how did you prep the wood for it?

All in all, very nice! So many great ideas in there!

Coin door is just for looks. If someone were to put coin in, it would land on monitor platform.

The red button is for 'puter on/off.

Monitor mounts on platform and via slots in top.

Yellow paint is Krylon High Gloss Canary Yellow. It has about 5 coats on it. Primed everything with Zinzer primer then paint. Sand in between coats with 330 grit "dry" paper. The wood is 3/4" MDF.

The power: I disassembled an old 'puter power supply to get the receptacle to get a clean look.
Then I wired in an illuminated rocker switch (125 VAC) in between that receptacle and my power strip...which is mounted in cab. The first switch cuts on the power strip (monitor, speakers, & pc).
The second switch was supposed to cut on the PC only but I got ahead of myself. The PC uses a momentary switch to cut on and thus a rocker will not work. So I mounted a momentary switch on CP1 for that and I'll put that other switch in it's hole and use it to power something....haven't figured that out yet......maybe power on the lights on the inside for coin door & CP lights when I get them mounted.

Hope that helps.

I am working on the webpage, not yet complete though.

I put some more pics up though.....click here for them

Here's the almost complete picture with my stools.
They came bare and I painted them and put cushions on them to match the cab.
