Why is the replacement for "sh it" way naughtier?
« on: May 29, 2008, 05:02:50 am »
When you talk about poop in this forum with other words (starts with "sh" and ends with "it") it will be replaced by "Cleveland steamer". I did not know what it was, but according to Wikipedia is is way worse than just manure:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cleveland_steamer
It goes about sexual stuff, strange Greek positions and stuff on the body. EEEK. Please give us sh-it again!

Indeed. Cleveland Steamer is highly offensive, and should be replaced with more random words, like Rusty Trombone or Blumpkin.

We could change it to Dirty Sanchez, but that would offend some people as well.

Here is how I see it:
It is not the boards problem that you took the time to look up Cleveland steamer. If it was changed to ::Jenna Jameson::, and you looked her name up and found offensive material, what would be the difference?

I find Cleveland Steamer to be HILARIOUS.

Now that I think about it though, ::Jenna Jameson:: has a nice ring to it.

Dude, you are so full of ::Jenna Jameson::

What a piece of ::Jenna Jameson::

why not just allow a "swear" word that's acceptable on network television nowadays on a forum that's mostly adults anyways? I don't know anyone in real life who is offended by the word.

I don't know why Saint uses the filter, but as far as I'm concerned, the replacements are more than acceptable. The filter allows me to view the forum while I'm at work (the main page, however, is blocked. Go figure) with my boss hanging around. I'm not worried about my seven year old reading the postings over my shoulder because she hasn't the foggiest idea what a Cleveland steamer even is. Heck, she doesn't know what half of the naughty stuff is. She thinks chocolate starfish is candy, that you really do toss a salad, and there is such a thing as a pink taco. But she sure as heck knows what ---steaming pile of meadow muffin---, ---fudgesicle--- and damn means and she knows what a ---Bad words, bad words, whatcha gonna do? Whatcha gonna do when saint censors you?---, penis and ass is.

Dude, how can you work in a place where your boss is a 7-year old?  I would try to find a new job.

And to one of the previous posts, "sh-it" is not an acceptable work on network television.  It is acceptable on late night cable shows, but only because the FCC doesn't regulate cable.  Technically a cable channel can say whatever they want, whenever they want.  They just don't because the advertisers would drop out.

If you aren't offended by "sh-it" then how can you be offended by what people do with it on their bodies?  I hear it's good for the skin.  Not to mention that it is chock full of anti-oxidents.

You do all realize that you can turn off the filter, right?

Profile > Look and Layout Preferences > check the box "Leave words uncensored."

Tada! Now you can see all the shits, ---smurfs---, and ---uvulas--- you want (and if any of those 3 words are censored for you, go turn off your filter!).

I think the problem with "--Cleveland Steamer--" is that if a 7-year old is browsing the forums and then asks "What's a Cleveland Steamer?" it would be more awkard than if it was replaced with "--Dung Pile--".

I do now!

It's a pretty lame filter, as the plural sh-it(s) comes through while the singular sh-it is censored. And I agree there has to be a better euphemism for sh-it then anything that has anything to do with using the stuff to get sexually excited.

By the way, why do they call it Coprophilia and not Crap-rophilia?

It must be late, because I find this funny.

I had a bad case of the giggles after reading PsychoAU post.

Seeing a reply put me over the edge.

I do not get it? Do you have some profanity-filter at work? How sad. Fortunately in Europe there's a zillion languages combined with free travel of citizens and employment, so blocking 'poop' which might be flower in Hungarian is simply illegal. However, I worked at a reformed christian job once and they had like the chinese firewall setup. Even Wikipedia was censored there. But it was done on everyones own pleasure, so I could turn of the proxy if I liked. But my collegues liked to use it as if Him asked them to do so personally!

so just replace it with feces.  Then when his seven year old asks what feces is, he can say "thats the real word for poop."  Then not only are you censoring, you're educating as well.
If you're replying to a troll you are part of the problem.
I also need to follow this advice. Ignore or report, don't reply.
