happ comps
« on: May 27, 2008, 12:05:59 am »
so im in the process of restoring a MKII.  I decided to used happ competition joysticks for player 1 and 2.  im at the point now where the game is playable and im not getting anymore work done.  my brothers and i spent the weekend playing and couldn't help but notice how hard it was to pull off special moves like the fireballs/lighting/etc...

i know your prolly thinking we just suck but honestly, even when we stared down at the joysticks and did the motions correctly, special moves just couldn't be pulled off consistently.   sure every now one would fire off but it was very difficult to keep doing them.  and dont even get me started on fatalities, we managed to get only a handful to work.

so whats the deal?  were the comps not the right way to go?  i thought i read awhile back thats what a lot of people are using.  not just on MK but other fighters too.  should i be using a different stick?

I was wondering this same question a while back and I ended up going for the Sanwa's.

After reading alot of comments they seemed to be a good all round type joy.

I too enjoy fighter games and my joy's should be arriving in the next few days, I'll let you know how they perform in MK.

I had happ comps in my cab also and noticed it comes down to how you play fighters.

Because of the hard spring in the stick they seem to spring back to center too far sometimes. My friend and I play SFA3 all the time and he has a hard time with this. He removes his hand from the joystick after performing a move and the spring back to center makes it hard for him to pull off the next move.

Also, make sure the square plunger at the bottom of the shaft is centered. I found that this causes problems with pulling off moves also.

Despite all that I still think these are some of the best joysticks when it comes to fighters.
