Happ Multi Player Door Question
« on: May 24, 2008, 03:25:05 am »
So I am looking to get a Happ Multi Player door (specifically one of these http://www.happcontrols.com/coindoors/40000800.htm), but am a little unsure as to if I need other parts to get it functioning. It mentions it comes without Harness, Meter or Box Assembly, so I imagine some other parts will probably need to be purchased. From looking over the installation instructions it looks like the box assembly is just the cash box, but what do the harness and meter do? Are these parts necessary for a functioning coin door on a MAME machine?

Sorry if the answer to this is buried somewhere in the forums, couldn't find it. Thanks.

The box assembly is the coin box, the meter is meant to count each time a coin is inserted so an operator could tell how popular a game is, and the harness I'm not sure about unless they mean a wiring harness for the lights and the coin switches.

You shouldn't need to buy extra parts, except for wire for hooking up the coin switches and powering the lights for the reject buttons.  The meter and the box are optional things.  You could use a cardboard box for catching the quarters.  The meter would be useful if you were running an arcade or an arcade game company and you wanted to know if a machine was popular.  It'd just be a novelty on a home cabinet.

Does it actually come with coin mechs?  The second bullet in the description says:

• "Universal" Patented one-piece mech. holder design. Will fit all known 3" x 5" mechanical and electronic acceptors on the market.

When I read that, I tend to think that it doesn't necessarily come with one since people will want to purchase their own coin mechs depending on their requirement (ie euros vs canadian quarters vs US quarters vs tokens etc).  On the other hand, if you look at the exploded view of the door, it does show the US $0.25 part listed:

http://www.happcontrols.com/coindoors/42305000.htm

Unlike the coin box assembly, it doesn't say that it's not included.  Maybe you should call them and ask them to ensure that the coin mech is part of the deal.

I have this coin door in my cab. It comes with .25 mechs, the reject buttons, bulbs and switches. Ordering the door by itself should be all you need. Like GAJoe said, you can get away with a tray about 12" wide to use as a coin box. Not sure what the wiring harness is for.

The wiring harness if for connection to an arcade board.  It includes the coin-mech signals and ground wires, the coin lamp power, and the coin meter power/signal connections.  Remember, Happ sells parts for actual arcade machines so the connections are designed for an actual machine.

I've gotten complete WORKING arcade machines for what Happ wants for a coin door assembly.

I had no idea they were that expensive.
