Mounting advice for a 27" CRT TV
« on: May 22, 2008, 03:55:16 pm »
I'm working on the design for my first cab now, and I'm wondering what people have done for mounting cased CRT TVs in their cabinets.  I've seen a few examples that create a full substructure out of 2x4s, and I'm thinking that will give me some extra lateral stability as well, but I've also seen other examples that don't put these in.  For those that have built cabinets with TVs, what did you find that worked?

this isn't my website but I set mine up the same way. It's plenty sturdy.

This worked for me...

A 2x1 batten on either side supporting the TV shelf, and then reinforced with four metal shelf brackets that screw into both the sides and bottom of the shelf.  You can look through the "Suspended Animation" project link below for more pics.

I was also worried about how to support my TV which is a 32 incher :o Thecab is not done yet, but is still plenty sturdy and does not wobble or shake during play testing. The shelf is built out of 2X6 which was most likely overkill, but wanted it tough. Then there is piece of 3/4 inch particle board for the shelf. See pic:
