Can a laptop monitor be used with a desktop?

I have a spare laptop monitor (may or may not be working). Is there a way to hook this up to a desktop? Any tutorials or links as to how to do this? It could go great in a cabaret or mini-cab. There are connectors on both sides but I have no idea what does what.

It can be done but the expenses of doing probably exceeds the the cost of a brand new monitor. Laptop monitors do not use standard video input so there probably is no easy way of doing it. I might be wrong though.

The response rate of a laptop monitor probably wouldn't be fast enough for decent gaming, especially a slightly older monitor.

Laptop monitors are just bare LCD screens, without a controller. a controller is a device that sits between the video signal from the computer and the screen itself to interpret the signal to something the screen will understand.

There are people and places that make custom controllers but each one is for a specific model of screen.  Odds are that one for your model of screen is not made.  Every different laptop had a different screen.

Last time I look into it (about 2 years ago), a controller for the screen I had was $800.00

I would just throw it away.  You can get 15" LCD monitors for a $100 now.

Oh well. I just figured since this thing was sitting around I might as well put it to use if possible. Interesting that it's such a huge hassle. Seems like it would be as easy as splicing wires, but as always, nothing is as easy as it seems. Thanks for the input.

Yeah I thought you might be able to do this to without too much hassle so I collected 4 or 5 of them from laptops that were getting junked at work. 

Oh well. Maybe they will work as frisbees.
