How many feet of t-molding for a Lusid cabinet?
« on: May 17, 2008, 11:15:40 pm »
I am sure this has been posted before, but I was not able to find any specifics via search or in Saint's book. How many feet of t-molding is usually required for a Lusid cabinet design? The t-molding would be going around both the front, back and control panel.

I did a very rough and hypothetical calculation and ended up at around 45 feet with some to spare. Seems a little high to me, but just wanted to be sure. Thanks in advance.

lol, Havok.

I made a "lusid style"  cabinet and calculated  about the same amount for a full wrap.  First I ordered the a good length in feet, but it was shipped in two lengths.  Now, because I am perfectionist, and I couldn't stand it having seams, I ordered twice as much the second time around.  Now i have some for later maintenance or to start fixing up my other cabinet.

If you're unsure, take a tape measure and loosely fold it around all the needed edges of the cabinet and go off that. It always seems a lot, but if you think of an average cabinet at 6 foot high, that's 6 foot front and back, on two sides, plus around 6 foot round a large control panel....... over 30 feet already, not counting all the curves and contours...

Better to have too much than too little, although the stuff can work out expensive.

Was hoping to get it ordered before the cabinet was built, thus asking now. It sounds like 45 feet would probably be more than fine, but might bump it to 50 just to make absolutely sure due to variances in control panel size, etc. Thanks for the help everyone, even Havok  ;)

I just built one and I ordered 2 - 20 lengths. 1 for each side and I had a few feet left over for each side (not enough for the CP). I ordered another 20ft for the CP. The place where I got the t-molding from only came in 20ft sections. but 20ft for each side is more than enough

Two 20' reels is enough to fully cover the sides (including bottom).  You'll need another 10' or so to cover the control panel.

I just checked my scrap t molding and i had 4' left over per side, so ~16' per side, to wrap all the way around from the bottom of the CP to the top of the CP
