Rewire power button
« on: May 17, 2008, 10:46:15 pm »

I've searched and I've read but I still need guidance.

I using a Compaq Presario 5284, and I have traced the power button wiring to the motherboard.  It appears there are five wires there, (red, orange, yellow, green, and blue).

I would like to rewire the power button to a pushbutton microswitch some where on the cabinet.   I am not sure which wire(s) are my ground and live wires to the power switch.

Any assistance in diagnosing my power button wires is greatly appreciated

it should say "power" on the motherboard itself right beside the correct pins.

only 2 are needed to power on. when your pc is off, use a screwdriver and touch 2 pins at a time, when fans start turning you'll know you hit the right 2 pins that need to be wired.
