Remembering WHY I built a MAME cab!
« on: May 30, 2003, 10:08:55 pm »
I was at a bowling party for graduation; I spent the entire time playing Metal Slug X, Magical Drop 3, HOTD 2, and Soul Caliber. I wound up spending 25$; and nonetheless sold my wallet in a pinch on Metal Slug on Mission 5 :)

I OWN all of these games! What on earth was I doing? Do they make a patch for this sort of thing?

Those games are too old school for me to feel any pride boasting about my abilities, but I did once make it to level 11 in Galaga and often make the highscore list on my MAME cab  ;D

Hmmm.... I guess I was sort of like SNAAKE. I was showing off and owning my entire graduating class in Magical Drop III. No really, I didn't lose! I won about 50 rounds in a row! It was a lot of fun in hindsight... maybe I could have layed off of the HOTD2 a little though (.75 cents a PLAY!) The Neo-Geo cab was only .25 cents a play though.

You did the right thing.  Without your support, all arcade games will quickly go away.

Once upon a time, people actually went out of their house to do things with other people.

It was the same reason that bars exist.  Yes, you can drink at your house if you want to get drunk.  You go to a bar for the ambiance.

People no longer want to do this with games, which is a pity.  I used to have a lot of fun with my friends at the arcade.  Although I can play with friends at home, I had more fun when I was out.

Hmm... it was fun almost beating Magical Drop 3 in front of my entire graduating class... as if they didn't think I was wierd enough... I had fun, but having a MAME cab has REALLY made me spoiled! Now I hate spending money at arcades!?

I hear ya man.  I can remember when i was about 12 my older cousin took me  and my sister to our small town local arcade which housed about 30 games.  That was HUGE for  my small town.   Man, we would spend like 40 bucks there every friday night. It was AWESOME.  I would also love going to the local bowling alley when i was 21 and street fighter was was reigning king at the arcades.    Of all the people that would come in there to paly that game and swear they could kick everyone elses butt, i was one of about 3 people who was almost undfeatable. lol No joke.   It was always great when myself and a couple of the other guys who were awesome at SF would play each other.  People would be gathering around  cheering and ooo'ing  and awe'ing.  It was a BUTTLOAD of great times.   PLus the local bowling alley was the home for many other great games i was weaned on throughout my teenage years.
Arcades were THE place to be back in the day.  I have often reflected back as you and many others have im sure and wished you could go back and relive those days of gameing glory.   I'm sorry, even though i love playing some console games, you know like some of the great nintendo games like zelda and even psx games like tekken and such games like that, yea they are great games, but the majority of the games now days just plain suck.   They simply do not have substance of many of the older side scrolling games and games like pac-man where you didn't have to necessarily spend and hour
beating them. Many time you knew you weren't going to play them long and just wanted a "quick fix" ya know?
But anyways.....lol....sorry.  I got all caught up there in the moment.hehehe
At any rate,  the arcades were definetly THE place to be!  :)

game on my friends, game on......... :D

Hahahahaha...no Snaaaake thtas ok, you could beat me on those games using 1 button and joystick left the entire match ;)

Now I might be able to hand your @ss to you on a platter in a game of Day of Defeat, but thats only cuz I've got practice at that.  Most fighting games I play in 10 minute rounds....I don't have the attention span to focus in on learning all the moves for each character anymore...*Sigh*...
