Super Mario Converted - going to MAME
« on: May 04, 2008, 01:03:44 am »
After a friend of mine saw the cabinet that I built:
http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=63362.msg631328#msg631328

They would like a home cabinet as well. So they want a full size one not a bar-top.

They purchased this older Super Mario Cabinet in Seattle and it had already been extensively converted to run Tekken 3. It has a Jamma harness and this second little blue harness. I am not sure what that harness is....

The cabinet runs Tekken 3 ok. Almost nothing about this cabinet is original. The Monitor was replaced. The glass and bezel has all been redone using materials from Home Depot or Lowes.

My plan is to use a J-Pac and Arcade VGA. This way the cabinet can be converted back to a straight Jamma if needed to in the future.

My question that I am throwing out there is:
Has anyone seen one of these secondary harnesses?
Do I have to do anything special to make it work with a J-Pac?

I do have a spare new Jamma Harness packed away some where and could just re-wire using that. I am hoping to just plug in the J-Pac and then spend the time in configuring the computer.

That second harness is a kick harness for Tekken 3 (for buttons 4-6). You just cut the wires off and they connect to the extra inputs on the J-Pac.

You don't have to rewire the cabinet, as you would still be doing extra wires for buttons 4-6 anyway.
Acceptance of Zen philosophy is marred slightly by the nagging thought that if all things are interconnected, then all things must be in some way involved with Pauly Shore.

I think that I may have answered my own question. I think that the second harness is to add buttons that were not standard in normal Jamma operation.

I will just have to add those using the screw terminals on the J-Pac.

If anyone knows that this is not the case that this harness is for something else please let me know.

As always these forums are a godsend.

Also, chop the wires off way high and extend them, that way you can sell your Tekken 3 board WITH the extra harness, they are worth more that way and it makes it easier on whoever gets it.

I am thinking of keeping the Tekken 3 board since it is one of those games that I can't emulate on my cabinet (which is a converted Street Fighter cabinet from about 4.5 years ago).

I think that I will either build a cabinet with a Jamma Harness or buy another machine and when I do the conversion I want to allow it to swap between Computer and standard Jamma boards easy.

Thanks for the tip though. If I do Sell it I will make sure that the kicker board goes with it and that the wires are long enough.

Nice. I plan to make my second cabinet with the design of the Mario Bros/Donkey Kong design. But first I need to start on my first cab.
