Problems with my controls
« on: April 28, 2008, 07:43:45 pm »
I am new to the forum...my first post.
I am also  new to building arcades. I just finished mine a few months ago and everything is  looking good on it.  The joysticks and buttons work perfect.
The one problem i'm having is with the spinner and trackball. I have a Happs 3" trackball with usb and ps/2 hookups and i also have the SlikStik Tornado Spinner usb. The trackball will work in windows xp just fine. I can move the pointer perfectly. When i load up a game it doesn't work. The spinner is doing the same thing, it works in windows but not when i load up any game.
What am i doing wrong??? :banghead:

Mouse input is probably turned off on mame. The default settings in most versions are keyboard only with mouse and joystick input disabled.  Always good to make the default settings something that makes no sense.

cool....sounds like an easy fix! Ummm this might sound dumb to anyone that knows the basic of mame but um.....where im the mame setup do you find that? I went to the user interface and didnt find anything about the mouse option.

It changes from one version to the next and I am a fan of versions that are like 6 years old (light years faster than current Mame), and you are probably using a recent version.

Just post your exact version and someone will tell you what to change.

I have versions .122 and .124a, yours is most likely close to the same tho. Go into your MAME folder and look for a file called mame.ini, open that in notepad and you should see an entery that looks like this: mouse               0 - change the zero to a 1. If you don't see the mame.ini file, goto command line and from your mame directory type - 'mame -cc'. That will create the ini file.

Hope this helps.

So if i got a light gun

Watch out about light guns. There are many threads here about them. Read about how to deal with them. Most of the lightgun relevant stuff is within the first 5 or so pages in main here.

And also, dont forget that there is a huge difference as to how CRT lightguns and LCD lightguns work...

IE, dont jump the "lightgun" so to speak... (Sorry bad pun)
