Lost the MameWah logo
« on: April 27, 2008, 11:16:50 am »
Hi All . Sorry to be a pain but I can't seem to find the answer to this "basic" problem . For some reason I lost a lot of my Windowns desktop settings on my Machine (Win98/Arcade VGA) . Now I've basically got everything more or less working but when I run MameWah I can only see a list of the games (I'm losing a couple at the bottom) . The main logo is not visible with my VGA settings . It's obviosly a VGA problem but for the life of me I can't figure out what's wrong . This was working before the thing screwed up this morning . I'm using 640x480 256 colors .

Thanks in advance

  • Yeah, owning a MAME cab only leads to owning real ones. MAME just isn't good enough. It's a gateway drug.

Use the layoutdesigner to see if you layout is actually 640x480. Change it to that if it isn't.

Thanks for the reply . My VGA card now doesn't like the Win98 drivers for some reason .
I only have 4 options when I click on the disply icon in the taskbar (640x288,640x480,800x600&1024x768) . I've no idea what's happened to the rest . I've re-seated the VGA card . I've also removed the ATI drivers and reinstalled them . After doing this I cget an error message saying "The adapter type is incorrect, or the current settings do not work with your hardware" . I click OK and I'm back to my 4 VGA options .

Which Arcade VGA card do you have exactly? (AVGA or AVGA2, AGP or PCIe, etc).

I had problems installing my AVGA2 card since I was trying to install it with the wrong drivers.  I was using AVGA (older drivers).

Also, did you try running the ATI catalyst uninstall program first?  It completely wipes all remnants of the ATI drivers from your comp.

Thanks DeLuSioNaL . I have tried removing the ATI drivers (using the removal tool) and re-installing them but I still get the same problem . There is only one set of drivers listed for Win98 and that's the one's I'm using . I bought the card around 2004 and I'm pretty sure it's a AVGA (AGP) . Anyway Win98 is driving me nuts so I'm going for a format and W2K install . Hopefully that'll fix my problem .
