Bezels: Cutting and Mounting Question
« on: April 25, 2008, 10:14:54 pm »
I've searched the forum for this topic and can't seem to find it anywhere.

Basically, tomorrow I hope to install my bezel (with Lexan).  What've you guys done to mount this onto your cabinet?  What I'm kinda thinking is this (attached file).

Pardon my crude, quick Photoshopping but I just wanting to kinda illustrate an idea I had, which seems to make sense...?  But it there an easier way of mountain the bezel and Lexan?

Also, how've you guys been cutting your Bezel?  I got the raw 29"x29" one, I'm thinking about trying to get it cut with my Lexan at the store, but if they won't do it, I'm curious what you guys have done.

Thanks!

Vash

I'm not entirely sure to be honest, and I'd like to know as well, but how are you mounting your monitor glass so that it remains snug?

Actually, that's what I'm going for, how to sandwich the bezel and glass into a nice tight package.  Right now I figure that I'll have that upper and lower gap and if I get some pressure on that, from the back, it'll keep everything snug.

I was thinking about doing that, but was afraid that if it wasn't snug enough it would constantly be rattled by the speakers just above the cabinet.  I don't want to use glue because it'd be impossible to get out, but I'm having trouble coming up with an alternative.

I'm kinda thinking about wedging in some foam of some sort, into any little gap, ya know, like foam used see in ear plugs or something, just to make it super snug.  I'm also planning on using black electrical tape (barely visible and hidden by the gaps) to bind the two at the ends, just to be safe.  Who knows though, never though about it all rattling!

Yup! that's how SEGA do it on most of their cabs. They also fit a piece of rubber between the back of the CP top and the front of the glass to take up that gap that shows on your drawing.

Excellent, thanks Fozzy, I was worried that I was on the wrong track.  Today I cut it exactly like my plan, and routed a notch at the top the I'm gonna put some backing on, that rubber piece to wedge in there.

80% there! haha  (Well, with the wood side of it!!)
