GP-Wiz MAX question
« on: April 25, 2008, 01:45:30 am »
I'm not exactly sure how to ask this question so please bear with me.

I have everything all set and everything works great but there's one thing that's bugging me I hope someone can help me with. My computer reads it as a single joystick with 28 buttons instead of 2 joysticks 12 buttons each.

On GGG site it says "Excellent free 3rd party software is available to allow this interface to send keypresses for use with admin and front-end applications when necessary.
"
Is this what I need to setup my controls properly? If so what software is out there that would help me out?

When I play games it's not a big deal since everything is set through MAME, but I'm using Mala and is shows my control set up is only for 1 joystick and 12 buttons, so all the other buttons don't even show up on Mala and it makes it a little annoying when starting/selecting a game.

If you need it, depends on what apps you want to use the gpwiz in.  If the app can't do everything you want on a gamepad, you'll need a joy2key type app.

AFAIK (and I know very little on Mala), you should be able to do everything without the 3rd party app.  I don't know if Mala has a max button per joydevice, but what are you trying to do with the missing 16 buttons?  Mame, of course, doesn't need the app, and probably preforms better without it.

Yea with Mala when you go into the configuration it'll only show 1 joystick 12 buttons so I can't use my Player 1 start button to select a game, I can only use a few of player 1 and player 2 buttons and it won't allow me to select "use a second joystick" because like I said windows recognizes it as a 1 joystick with 28 buttons instead of 2 joysticks 12 buttons each. (and all of my wiring is correct)

I just need a way to configure it to Windows as a 2 joystick/player setup so Mala can also recognize it as well.

I'd think getting Mala to see more than 12 buttons is the more likely solution.  See if you can get the Mala developer to add support for more buttons.

Either that, or buy a second GPwiz, or switch to a FE that can handle at least 28 button per joystickdevice. :-\

Well thanks for the input, Ive tried other FE's but wasn't able to get them working at all, this is the only issue I have with Mala, it works fine just a little annoying I can't use certain buttons.

I tried contacting GGG to see if they could recommend anything but when I select "contact us" it just keeps loading forever. I'll try another time.
