hp design jet 24" large format printer would it do?

hi iat work we got the above mentioned printer , if i were to buy a roll of http://www.digital-fusion.co.uk/Inu_products/INU_ProdDetailsL9.asp?ref=24509070 <-----vinyl,  would this be ok for printing side art and cp layout on the paper and printer? and if so would photoshop or paintshop pro be ok software to use??

Yup,
That's the vinyl I use on my 44" HP. The one you mention is 36" wide though and will not fit into your printer.
Find the 24" wide one.

cool thanx for info, when using the printer (they use it for drafts) the colour looks a but faded unknowen if this is because of paper or ink (gen ink init) or if its on draft copy, i will check the paper size it could be bigger than what i sayed, its aroll upto my waist, when im next on nights ill play with it (hopefully get drivers for vista) and print a few mocks before ordering the paper saves getting 3 copys of side art and controlls printed at mamemarque or anyother place, (but il get the marques from there as its backlit uv paper)

You can print all of this on your printer. I use to run a 60" for a printing company. As far as your distributer goes,being im from the US, you may have to be a bit more choosier. If you are running a roll fed printer and your prints are coming out washed out then you are going to want to color profile your printer for the media that you are using. We ended up having a tech come in and run calibrations once a month on our equipment, but you can do a pretty good job by yourself.

Gretag macbeth, and EyeOne both make color profiling systems so that you can get your color output just right.

As far as hp material, Im not too wild on it. Ive used lexJet in the past and used them for around 3 years. I'm sure the UK has some good suppliers that copy other medias.

Here are some back lit options for your printer. Not all come in 24, but if you order a 48" they will cut it in half for you. Backlit material prints just like standard media, but you backprint it, and set your printer to reverse the image.

thanx for info and links, i dont know if the printer is  just a draught printer thats all they use it for.th 550, should do gfx though

It may just be a "draft" printer, but if you play with your ink saturation you can get a dull gray to be jet black, or a light pink to be the exact dark red. You may need to invest a little cash, but you could always pick up a cheap colorometer and a monitor profiler off ebay that may help you do what your wanting to do. If you would like to find a good reseller in your area, check google. Look up (your reigon) reprographic / print or printing supplies. Good luck and let us know what you make!

hi its works printer  so dont want to mess with it to much, but will rig up to laptop and c what i can do with it, i think it is a draft printer they use it for maps

As much as I love recycling I have never seen an aftermarket inkjet ink that prints as well as the HP ones. The color saturation is usually off and they tend to bleed (Look fuzzy) on most stockes. IIRC the DesignJet 550 takes seperate inks and printheads so if you change the inks do not dispair when the print does not improve right away, you will need to print enough to work all the ink already in the supply tubes and printhead tank out of the system.
