This will work?? PSX Converter DO ALL?
« on: May 27, 2003, 09:43:00 pm »
Hi.

I read some stuff.

So can anyone tell me if this is possible...

If we hack a PSX PAD http://axelb.free.fr/caj/psx.html
and get a Psx converter USB to PC
can we connect the controls (joysticks and buttons on the arcade cabinet) to the psx pad?

This will work on mame emulador ?

If YEs. We dont need KEYBOARD ENCODERS like IPAC, and all that ...Rigth?

Enlight me please.

Some people do it.  There was a thread just recently.
PS Ctrl
If you look back even further I remember someone said that some PS to PC USB controllers had a lag and some worked OK.

Just my opinion and IPAC or Keywhiz is alot easier and neater.

Yeah, works fine. Just have to be careful about the brand of PSX USB adapters you get.

I think use this one...
The name they gave is SUPER DUAL-BOX...we can connect 2 psx pads on it.

Super Dual Box

PSX Compatible Controller Adapter For PC USB

Real Vibration Feedback supported.

Convert your PSX Joypad, Racing Wheel, Dancing controller to be used on PC.

Support all of the buttons on your PSX Controller.

Easy to use, hot-plug into USB socket of your PC and install the driver, then it works perfectly.

Support Real Vibration Feedback by using Dual-Shock on the supported games, unlike the others which are driven by sound effect.

Compatible with Win 98, Win98SE, Win ME or Win 2000/XP, together with the DirectX 7.0a or above.

Support both Digital and Analog modes.

Support 4 types of vibration 1. Constant Force 2. Sine Force 3. Spring Force 4. Ramp Force

Two players can play at the same time.

This will is ok??

The only think we must be aware is that if the converter works without analog pads rigth?

Some guy on irc recommended me that model since it worked so well for him i got 2 of them and they were dirt cheap (3.25 and because of bidding war 5.50 + shipping on ebay). For pad hacking the USB seems the way to go since its fast and multiple button presses are supported and almost every computer has atleast two usb ports. With these two adapters i could someday easily have an interface for a 4 player cab. But how good are they?

This could be the best adapter to get so i think we need to test this one further.  Havent got a working floppy drive so I havent installed the drivers on my xp and psx pads dont work but dualshocks do and I havent experienced any noticeable lag or anything on sigleplayer. How many signals can usb send compared to parallel port? And what specific game/software should i use to easily test if it has lag on 2 player mode or how many buttons can be pressed.

I dont know what the hell is going on but the same store is selling them cheaper on ebay than theyre webstore.

This is realy cheap indeed  :o

But let me understand u straigth...

U have try this converters rigth ? And it works...
And u havent  try the psx digitals only, u must get that floopy drive NOW  8) !
And the digitais controls from the DualShock PAd works fine?
Do u use any kind of "special" software ?

This looks great, it seens theres is not lag.

It seens this is the best option for connect the control panel to all kind of consoles. Dreamcast, Xbox, PSX, PS2 , PC. this is really great...

Can you test these to see if they handle up+down at the same time?  and left+right at the same time?  Some converters don't do this, and it is required for DDR type controlers.  If it does work it would be much cheaper than the alternatives out there.

How many signals can usb send compared to parallel port?

Parellel ports (on a pc) have 8 data pins, while USB have 1. But that's the whole point, USB is a form of serial (Universal Serial Bus) communication, you send 1 bit at a time. Parellel, if the software is expecting this, can be treated as serial, too.

DDR TYPES ?? What a hell is that?  :-[
Dance Dance Revolution.  You know those step on pad controlers for the dance games?

Many PSX => USB converters will not accept up+down or left+right at the same time, and these are required for the dance games.

But the thing is, you could do the very same thing with a pc gamepad(gravis gamepad pro is pretty good), so it doesnt' realy eliminate the need for keyboard encoders.  Keyboard encoders are easier than hacking a gamepad, and that's why they sell so well.  If you just want to hack some gamepads, instead of getting psx to pc adapters and all that stuff, why not just hack 2 gravis gamepad pro's?

Like that thread I pasted, you have to be concerned about what you're expecting from the converters. There are a lot of them out there, and many of them have quirks. Some don't work with non-analog PS1 pads. Some work with dual shock PS2 pads but not PS1's. Some work only when the contoller is in analog mode and not otherwise, or keep the dpad mapped to button presses as opposed to the axis when not in analog mode.

The lik-sang 'Boom' ones I know work properly with all pads and their modes. That is, when you switch the analog button on a PS1 Dual Shock / PS2 pad, the X-Y axis gets switched from the dpad to the analog stick.

If you're only gonna be plugging in PS2 Dual Shocks and using them in analog mode then most of the newer adadpters should be fine. Hope this helps.

edit: Oh, and you shouldn't need a floppy drive, if that's what you meant above. Under Win98SE-XP just plugging the USB adapter will bring up a '16 Button 4-axis Gamepad' in the game controllers control panel.

But hey, in the "Additional Notes"
they say  "Only compatible with analogue/Dual Shock controllers"

Do u have Dual Shocks hacks? function on analog mode?
Or digital mode?
Or non-analog psx ones?

EDIT:
The guy from that forum, say it resolve the problem. We must connect both psx pad, them connect to pc usb.

This Is great i will get one of this :)
