Control panel covering
« on: May 27, 2003, 05:39:28 pm »
I was wondering, what people used to cover their control panels. I had originally Contact paper over the wood covered by plexiglass, but there are 3 problems with it,
1. The plexiglass is easily scratched by watches and stuff.
2. It has a few small cracks, from drilling holes.
3. The contact paper is losing it's adheisivness and is gettin air bubbles in it.

I was thinging of using some sort of laminated wood.
Is this alright for cutting and drilling holes in?
can you put t molding on it?
Are there any cheaper/better options

Use either MDF or particle board for best result.
apply the laminate first then drill holes.Very easy.
Sure you can use t-molding.  :)
Better opition..umm...not sure but you can try that vinyl oscar uses.
take a look here.

I use Lexan, and it's real shiny and nice... and not that hard to cut.  But it's brand new and so I don't know about the scratching thing, but I wouldn't bet against.  So far I like the Plexi.  Ther was a post a while back that Oscar put up.  It was with some new contact paper from partsexpress.  It looked pretty nice.

I just use the Happs "pica" vinyl.  It is *very* durable and looks pretty
good to me, but some might not like how plain it is.
