dont worry about hurting my feelings i have strong skin, whats your opinions

when i resized the image way down it made the blue border around the letters quite a bit bigger, the blue border in the original image isnt quite as thick.

I don't think they look too bad. The only thing is that the Fusion background looks kinda scrunched.

They're both lousy, infantile and amateuresque looking. I've seen better from someone attempting to draw with their wrong foot.  ;)

I like the second one better.

Looks very generic, not very original. Too "Pac Man" oriented. ;)

But yeah, the 2nd one looks better, since the blue outline is too distracting.

So a leper walks into a bar and as he gets his beer, a finger falls off. The bartender who is serving him turns and pukes all over the place. The leper, feeling bad, says, "Was it my finger falling off?" The bartender turns to him and says, "No, it's the guy dipping chips into your back."

i would drop the pac font to start with and be careful with the gradients, shades and dropshadows.

It looks nice. So did the 2nd one in your first post. You're the one that has to look at the darn thing every time you play games on your cab, so it should be a personal decision.

I never said avoid the shadows .. only said the blue outline on the first version (1st post) looked too distracting. I actually like this last one best :)

Overall, I think there's too much negative space (emptiness)... and right now there's no 'weight' to the middle of it to kinda anchor one's eye, it's all just kinda floating.  Maybe you can just take an original marquee, import it to Photoshop, then doctor it to your verbage, like an original Donkey Kong or other classic.

But don't sweat what's been done or not been done in other cabs, none of us are reinventing the wheel... at the end of the day, we're all trying to create some kind of feeling from our childhood so whatever gets that done for you, go with it, even if it might be similar to someone else's design.

Not a fan of the squished background, but otherwise, I like it.

Try cropping the fusion background to the marquee size instead of shrinking it. Other than that, I think it looks great!

Personally I think the cropped background in the 2nd one from your original post would be best so far.  I like the yellow letters without the blue outline and I like the cropped background instead of the shrunk.  Just my 2 Cents.
Careful what you wish for you may get it!!

I think you had some good suggestions on cropping the fusion image.  This is a much better treatment then smashing the original image non-proportionately and showing through some of the inadequacy in skill.

I feel like when I look at the lettering that the only things that have been tried are the most simple layers styles - borders, outer drop shadows, inner drop shadows, etc.  Why not try some of the more advanced applications of some of those layer styles and incorporate some of the treatments from the era of this kind of artwork.  A lot of old arcade lettering had a thick border, if not two or three borders / outlines.  (Maximus Arcade logo is a perfect example of a modern day spin with a retro feel).  I feel like the inner shadow is silly when you will be printing out a 'flat' dimensioned marquee.  Why not use glow set with a hard edge as well as a border, give it some thickness, and mess with the blending modes to pull in some of the fusion background?  The original blue and black borders set at about 1-2 pt felt too timid and insecure about being a part of the artwork, and you definitely need some contrast in the middle where your lettering overlaps the fusion background.

Ok...that was kind of a cop out response and confusing.  You have done drop shadows and borders, and I have given you tips on things to try in the same tool area in the program.  This has nothing to do with being an artist.  You have us for the creative eyes on what does or doesn't work, and you obviously know how to edit drop shadows and similar effects.  Can't you try some of these things and post results here for feedback?  Do you know what a blending mode is, not every one does...
