720 Registry & Hello!
« on: April 11, 2008, 03:03:38 am »
Hi Folks - My first post here:

Short Version:
I own an Atari 720 and maintain a web site dedicated to the game. I’ve recently started a registry and would very much appreciate any fellow 720 owners registering theirs at: http://www.geocities.com/civitat/720/720-Registration.html - Thanks Much!

Long Version: (some of this from the KLOV boards and emails I’ve sent): I’ve just finally signed up for these boards and wanted to say a quick hello. Years ago I lurked a bit in the rec.games.video.arcade.collecting/marketplace/etc newsgroups while searching for, and finally restoring an Atari 720 Degrees. Once done I put up a web site that chronicled the restoration and compared the results. Lately I’ve taken a renewed interest in the game and have begun playing again. I’ve also started to update the site with some 720 gameplay and other resources, and 6 years later have finally just picked up my second game.

*** You may have seen this already if you're on the KLOV forums or the newsgroups -
Apologies for any duplication.***
Hello Atari 720 Degrees Owners (current, future and past), I own a 720 in San Diego, CA and maintain a website dedicated to my restoration and play of this great game. In response to a post on the KLOV-VAPS message boards, and taking a queue from the Quantum Registry, I've begun to compile a list of as many dedicated 720 machines, by serial number, as possible.

If you still own your 720 and could supply the below information, I'd appreciate it. Also, if you know of anyone else who has a 720 and has not seen this message, please forward.

Please Reply With:
1. Your Name
2. Serial Number
3. Game's Location (City/State)
4. Note or Comment (Optional)
5. Site or Picture Link - Or attach a picture (Optional)

I'm also very interested in other aspects of the 720 - Any other information you'd like to share would be great:
** History of the Game Release -
* Total number distributed - Anyone know?
* Any manufacturing facts or stories, etc.
* Any contact with the game's designers?
** Advanced Scoring Techniques -
* Information on patterns for Skate City bonuses (when and where they show up)
* How the diminishing returns on points for jumping and spinning work
* Tips on high scoring in the parks,
* Anything else! I'm still trying to get a feel for how the 527K world record was acheived.
*** Bugs / Glitches / Cheats -
* Getting outside the fence
* Avoiding Bees
* Random High Scores Being recorded (PCB Battery Issues)
*Quick Ramp Lip Scoring (As you start the ramp, hit the wall then grind on the lip, scoring quick points)

Thanks, and SKATE OR DIE!

Are you interested in machines still on location? I know of at least one (assuming they haven't replaced it. It's at a place that's only open during the summer, don't think they're open yet). Another one had one until recently. I don't know that I could get serial numbers though, unless they're on the outside, although I may be able to talk to the owner of the arcade.

I played a 720 arcade machine at the Funspot arcade in New Hampshire a few years ago.

I would definitely be interested in registering on-site machines. The serial numbers are on the back, right-hand side of the cabinet. I certainly don't expect anyone to be climbing around or dragging games out in an arcade, but would appreciate contact information, or even the name of the place, and I'd ask the owners.

Thanks.

Gameland in Lake Geneva WI had one when I was there a couple weeks ago, but it was turned off. Maybe if someone is nearby there, maybe they can check a serial number.
