Whats the depth of your 2 player cp?
« on: April 09, 2008, 07:07:52 pm »
I'm trying to get an idea of a good depth to have for my cp. I'm looking for cp's with two player setups, (~six button street fighter like setups) with track balls.

Can those of you with something similar post a pic/link with your cp dimensions?

So far it looks like 14" might be too deep but it's hard to tell without a mock up.

Haven't built this yet, but here's my design:

So a leper walks into a bar and as he gets his beer, a finger falls off. The bartender who is serving him turns and pukes all over the place. The leper, feeling bad, says, "Was it my finger falling off?" The bartender turns to him and says, "No, it's the guy dipping chips into your back."

Is everything to scale? If so, what size is the track ball (I can't tell from the drawing)?

Yes, I used the CP designer from mamerooms.com .. it's a happs 3" trackball.

29" Wide By 11" Deep........ and also includes a spinner and dedicated 4-Way stick. Perfectly comfortable. However the service buttons and player start buttons are mounted on a separate vertical panel at the rear... not shown here.

What size track ball are you using?

Have you already built it? If so do you have pics of the finished product?

I was originally thinking 10" but according to the jakobud.com, the two cabs I like have a 14"-18" cp depth!

I like your layout but I want the track ball a little lower and I wont have a spinner either.

42" wide X 15-1/5" front to back 3" happs trackball yellow L&R mouse buttons on each side of TB plate.

tab/pause/exit/enter are the black buttons

toggle switch's above joy's are to swap from dreamcast analog joystick to digital joystock functions on the fly

used 3/4" MDF and formica countertop laminate may do a spinner and artwork later down the road.

EDIT: very comfortable for 2 players where your not hugging each other or sitting in each others lap while trying to play  :laugh2:

cab was also made for a 25"-27" monitor so that plays a factor in your control panel size and  overall control set-up also.

That's almost exactly the width I'm working with, too.  Do you find it fairly comfortable for two people stand side by side with that much space?

Ginsu, are those Esticks?

If they are, any ideas on how to get the top plate to stay in place? Im only using Esticks right now because they were cheap and easy to install, but I am planning on modding the CP design (or doing it from scratch again later) with U360s. It would still be nice to make the top plate stay in the same place tho...
--- Yes I AM doing this on purpose, and yes I DO realize it is pissing you off.

Don't they have a nut on them that you tighten down like a pushbutton does?

Pretty much comfy. As long you or your friends aren't a bunch of sweaty fat asses, it's fine. My wife and I love playing it.

I've gotten rid of the Happ Universals and switched to U360s myself. However, to keep the top plate in place, you need to cut notches to match the ones on the bottom of the plate. Then tighten the ---Cleveland steamer--- out of the nut. The part that rotates for Q*Bert is supposed to be the switchplate anyway.

Mine is 16" deep and 28.5" wide at the back and front.  In the middle of the sides, it juts out to 37.5" wide.  I've got a 3" Happ Trackball in the middle.  My layout is in the artwork section under "Family Guy CP Artwork".
Donkey Kong High Scores:
1): 49,500
2): 35,600
3): 30,100
4): 29,400
5): 28,200

It is deep enough as long as the trackball plate fits on it, that is your minimum and the minimum is more than comfortable (most Streetfighter machines you played on were probably conversions of early 80s titles with panels only about 5-6" deep.

Too MUCH depth is actually a fairly common mistake. In general your design should be such that the control panel doesn't jut out more than a few inches past the coin door (not at all is even better).
Acceptance of Zen philosophy is marred slightly by the nagging thought that if all things are interconnected, then all things must be in some way involved with Pauly Shore.

I remember the short stubby converted Cp's and could not stand them let alone play them with a buddy without being squeezed in.

some may like them that way but if you stick your tongue out and it toach's the screen it is a little to close for comfort for most gamers prefference's and would have to argue that (not is all is no good period no better) unless your going blind or a mini-me.
