Spray Paints, where to get the good ones

Hi, whats a good spray cans for painting wood

so you applied primer with brush, 2 coats.
then sand it nicely....

what kind of spray paints do I need?
btw, since I primed the whole MDF wood, it is ok to use any kind of spray paints? or still stay away from water base ones?

The answer is don't use spray paint. You will get a much better finish using a very fine/smooth roller and applying 2-3 coats.

i have foam type roller, is that ok?
can u explain more why roller is better than spray?

Do i  need to thin them? cause i been reading a lot saying spray > roller

What?  Since when can you get a better finish with a roller..... What a load of tosh!!  If that was the case then cars would be roller painted.

The answer is that spraying will always produce a better finish BUT! unless you have spray equipment, it's not worth doing on something the size of a cabinet. You'll use a very large number of rattle cans at a very very high cost.

So yes... stick to the glossing roller... but not because it produces a better finish. It will produce a finish that is perfectly well up to arcade standards.

Even spray paint still requires some mild sanding. At least for me. Maybe I just suck at it. I did wet sanding and got an almost mirror finish. But spray painting resulted in a much smoother paint job than a roller ever did so I would never say that a roller is better. Good enough for an arcade? Perhaps, but definitely not better.

Like I mentioned in another thread, the only way you will ever get an ultra smooth finish with a roller is if the surface being painted is already very smooth and doesn't absorb paint. So unless your painting glass, it wont happen.

I believe he meant "Don't use spray paint cans to paint your cabinet", and to that I say "Yes, I agree".  A professional spray gun and properly thinned and mixed paint will look godlike if applied as such.  Multiple different spray cans with different consistancies and applications will look like utter crap.

It dries rock hard in about an hour leaving a very smooth texture
without the need for sanding in between coats.

The downside is that a 5oz can costs about $5.00 and takes about
six cans for a full size cabinet.

I thought it was worth it.
