I've been doing some tests with concave pushbuttons by Industrias Lorenzo. I had several models of microswitches, from hard Honeywell to different Cherries with several degrees of lightness. Then, I had an idea: what if I remove the spring of the button? I did so and I was really surprised to notice that the button keeps on working fine, but much much lighter. I expected it to be less responsive and have a slower reaction when you release it, but I've tried button tapping and it works perfectly. So, if you want very light action buttons, you could try this. What I don't know is whether the buttons (or should I say the microswitches...) will be durable and keep their performance after years of use without the aid of the springs. Have you ever had or try this idea for your control panel?
