Getting rid of my arcade cab-Your opinions
« on: May 26, 2003, 04:50:53 pm »
My arcade cab is pretty bad. I really want a good one, so what do you suggest i do?

Here are my problems

The construction is a bit wobbly.
Plexiglass is scratched.
Paint- very bad
Want to put in a trackball.

I also want to get a better pc and moniter for it.

Here's what i'm thinking i should do
Either
1. Take it apart, rebuild it repaint it, reconstruct the controls.

2. Sell it and build a new one from scratch. (May be hard to sell as it looks quite bad, and is very heavy).

What are your thoughts. I'd kind of like to redesign it, but i am on a budget and will have trouble selling it.

If you built it yourself, then just take it apart and reuse whatever you can. If it is a factory cabinet of some sort, then see if you can give it away.

Probably isn't worth much money if handbuilt or factory, not going by the description you gave.

Even if you intend to sell it, I just don't see anyone forking over cash for a cabinet that's in the shape that you describe.  Gutted (empty) cabinets that are in decent shape can be had pretty easily, but why would someone want to pay money just to be in the position that you're in now?  Sorry, but I just don't see it.  My vote would be to gut it and scrap it.

Well if your on a budget, I would just tear it down and rebuild it using what you can. I take it this was your first try? Things dont always come out perfect the first time around. That was the case with cp. So I just built a new and I got better at the second time around... And the third time too. :)

Of course you could always just keep, and buy what you can till you have enough to build a new one..

don't you think it'll be kinda hard to give any advice on changes without actually seeing it?  :-\

from your description sounds like everything  ;)

My favorite methods include burning and cutting up with a skil saw. See my website for pictures of the latter.  :o

Well, here are my first improvements
New processor, for Neo Geo and midway games
Add Wheels. It used to have some, but they broke under it's weight. :(
Repaint it. The paint on one side isn't finished, because it used to be beside the wall. It's not any more.
Add a trackball
Rebuild it with a wooden frame inside to support it.
Add T-molding
Replace the plexiglass.
Add a bigger moniter.
