For one thing, it would help when threads/posts disappear and nobody knows why (like this).

More importantly though, it would serve as a dynamic example of "Here's what not to do at BYOAC".  This type of thing has been used at other sites, and it is quite effective.  Rules and etiquette vary from site-to-site, so it would be a good way for people to see what types of posts the moderators here frown on.  The whole "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it" thing.

Of course, if this thread gets sent to Post Hell, I'll accept that as my answer.  ;)

Heh,

I'll sign that petition! I've suggested in the past a pay for an "uber" member that could "read only" #9 (post hell)

Although I don't think it will happen.  I'm guessing that once posts make it to an admin only section of the website....  the admins probably comment on the, er...  lack of sensibility of the posts sent to post hell, in a manner and tone that they can't/shouldn't on the public side....   just a hunch .

I'm sick of craning my neck and standing on my tippy toes to glimpse just the door of Post-Hell.  I must know what is on the other side, as well!!  ;D

Oh yeah, sure, bring that up.  Now everyone will want in.  Good thing you didn't mention the wild parties and strippers we get in there all the time...   :)

Seriously though, Sasquatch, the mod's do not move posts just on a whim.  There is a very short and concise list for mod's to use as a guide, as well as relying on the mod's best judgement, to preserve the integrity of these forums.  I do not believe it is necessary to make an example of members who have made unwise posts to be publicly displayed as "bad behavior not to be followed".  Typically just using common sense (ie., no roms/cracks/illegal activity/vicious behavior) will prevent posts from being moved to Post Hell.

Hmm.. is there a guideline to whether a single post get's deleted or a whole thread banished?  I dislike it when a whole thread disapears when only the last few posts were malicious/malcontent... (although that was recticified in the latest example, i'm just mentioning it)

BTW you all suck, gimmegimme romz, and some 3l3te warez, and does anybody want free copy of some cabinet plans?  (i'm kidding for jeebus's sake for those sans sense of humor)

I'm not questioning any of the moderator decisions, so that's not what I'm jockying for.

I'm sure there's reluctance to "make examples" out of people (for fear of ostracizing them perhaps), and I understand that, but I still think that if nothing else, it would help break down the walls of what happens and why.  Or, put another way, it would help people understandy the "why" (again, not that I'm putting anything to question).

P.S. Rampy, check ur PMs for l33t w4r3z and cabinet planz.

I'd love to have access to post hell....if for no other reason than to reread the things that I've had sent there  ;D

Also...I'd get a kick out of people having access to those things.  I wouldn't feel humiliated in the least.  But at the same time I completely understand the reluctance to grant access.

If you change your minds, though, consider my John Hancock signed big and bold on the petition!  ;)

 ::)
Ya, my experience is that moderators never give me the million dollars I ask for; why is that?  I ask nicely like this: "GIVE M3 MILLI0N D0LLAR$!!!", and they still don't give me.  They are mean. ;)

(The above paragraph is 100% sarcasm)

Seriously, if the message was removed, it was not within the rules of this board, and the message should stay removed.  What ever reason it was removed is the exact same reason people should not be able to read it in "Post Hell" or anywhere.

Keep up the great work you (million dollar hording ;D ) BYOAC moderators!

well yes but a million dollars is out of their control, that's kind of an assnine statement to render what i said irrelevant when it doesn't even apply... in any case now I do see your point. If it violated forum rules I guess they have a right to take it off, although I honestly doubt that anyone here would care if a few "bad words" were slipped in somewhere, we're all mature people, I assume?

Yeah, I know that if this board weren't properly moderated I wouldn't be able to let my four year old daughter come here to research router templates for her new Happ High-Lip. Speaking of which... She snuck up behind me last night while I was playing Wolfenstein ET in my office. Who knows how long she was standing back there, since I kind of get "in the zone" when I'm getting my engineer-of-doom on. Eventually, I realise she's there when she says:

"Good job killing daddy. You're a good killer."

Forget saving for college, I've got to start saving for psychotherapy!

hehe, as long as you have her realize it not real and you don't do that in real life.

Heck, I played wolf3d when I was a kid, but I'd never kill anyone in real life.

Other than self defense and war, killing is wrong... then again there is a difference between murder and killing... even if anyone knows the Bible, look at the real commandmants, not translated crap... thou shall not murder... it does not say "thou shall not kill" as many people believe today, there is a difference, hence the justification of the crusades, ect... in any case that's neither here nor there...

Most people would realize a video game is fake, if they don't it's either, a total lack of parental supervision, or somone of a young age, but if someone in 5th grade doesnt understand a game is fake they have problems, lol...

That's actaully what I hate about themedia, blaming music and video games on school violence.  They may have been the catalyst to a much bigger problem.

very very true. Back when wolf 3d was around and gaming wasn't super popular besides nintendo, games weren't blamed for anything...all of a sudden those two school shooting idiots come on the scene the media has an open forum to attack everything they can, it isn't the parents fault, oh no, lets blame games, movies, music ect...what ever happened to a thing called responsibility for one's actions?

Lol, I responded to her by asking if she realised that it was just pretend killing. She said:

"But in your game it's real killing. Can I kill?"

Yes honey. Yes...

Considering I had always planned on training my kids to be my private cadre of cybernetically enhanced assassins, I suppose this isn't a terrible development.

What about forwarded the deleted messages back to the original poster, or an auto-generated message; wether it be a warning or an explanation?

As for a the legal debates went... the threads and messages were deleted, but a few people just started a new thread anyhow. (Which is funny, cause I thought I saw a public message stating why the thread was killed. Maybe they thought public warning don't apply to them ??? ) Just a thought.

Actually, when the notice went up after Saint's fight for your rights post on boards, it went up on the main page of the site, IIRC. Some of us can browse arcadecontrols.org from work, but not arcadecontrols.com, because of weak net filtering :)
