what should i use to glue my CPO ?
« on: March 29, 2008, 03:28:07 am »
i got a replacement CPO from mamemarquee.com , because i used the 3m High Strength 90 spray glue, to glue to my painted particle board, but after 3 days it lifted.

So i have rebuilt my CP and drilled my holes and primed and painted the BACK SIDE, but left bare wood on top.  how would be the best way to glue (i got the adhesive backed vinyl) to my particle board.  i tested a peice with the 3m stuff , on unpainted particle board, 2days later really strong , i still pulled it up but took some work.   i just dont want to go thru this again.  any ideas

I'm curious what peoples recommendations are as well.  I am nearing this point in my build.

i was actually on my way to buy a bigger can of that spray and SATURATE the whole thing.  i was thinking maybe CONTACT cement or rubber cement (same thing ? )

ok i just bought a qt container of WELDWOOD contact cement GEL formula. says it will bond laminate to particle board, so i see no reason why it wont for this medium. 2-3hr working dry time , 7day full strength

ok if your gonna use contact cement..probaby dont use the GEL, harder to put on and spread thinly.   the first half of CPO got too much glue , dried to quick to get thick area spread out , second half i used quick brush strokes and did 2 really thin layers.  that side look flwaless.

only problem is the first side has stretch marks , and it looks like the cement was too much for the backing,  it got alittle soft , i think it almost ate thru it.  i cut slits in the CPO for button holes and actualy did notice the TOP of CPO layer separating from backing.  sighh...yet another CPO ruined.  im dont with it, ill just get a peice of melamine.

If you work fast an you have a steady hand you could try with neoprene glue (is used to glue laminate to particle board)  it will never come off but you cannot do any correction and you have to pe able to place the CP in the correct position at first attempt becaue once the part with the glue are placed near that cnnot be separated anymore.
