Gutted centipede for $50?

I'm thinking this is a "very yes" but just wanted to double check with you people who know more about pricing than I...

Only the cabinet itself with side art, no guts.

I'd sure as hell give $50 for it.

That's what I paid for mine :)
So a leper walks into a bar and as he gets his beer, a finger falls off. The bartender who is serving him turns and pukes all over the place. The leper, feeling bad, says, "Was it my finger falling off?" The bartender turns to him and says, "No, it's the guy dipping chips into your back."

I bet the easiest way to turn it into a Centipede/Millipede is getting a 60in1 and a switching power supply. And a monitor and trackball of course....

Where is it? If it's near me I will go take a look and let you know if it's worth it. ;D

You know with people giving away computers on craigslist I imagine the easiest way to turn it back to centipede would get a free comp off craigslist (even a 300mhz is fast enough) and use Mame. I'm sure you could also get a free 19inch monitor no problem.

Then you just need an ipac and controls and speakers. Much easier than getting a power supply and all the jamma stuff. If you really want to use a real arcade monitor get an ATI card and run that 15khz program.

Also if you use dos you can right a batch file that will boot straight into the game. I think the Mame route could be much cheaper (and more authentic that a dodgy 48-1)

I'll disagree with the "much easier" assessment. Wiring is wiring. I find wiring JAMMA with an authentic monitor to be much easier than messing about with other stuff (I haven't wired a MAME cab anything but JAMMA since my first MAME cab).

As for the computer part ... I would use a 60-in-1 (since ... doh ... the 48-in-1 doesn't support trackballs) or a Centipede-to-JAMMA converter, but same result can be achieved with a low-end PC (and if you want to interface with that PC, I would use a JPac).

As far as specifics with cost goes, I won't say much (!) since saint has asked us not to mention the price of xx-in-1 boards.

I would tend to lend some credence to the advice of Level42 ...

I wouldn't spend 50 for a gutted centipede unless it was in flawless condition.  I have a hard time spending much for a gutted cabinet unless its really nice.

I would say go for it!

My opinion may be a little biased since I don't live in a very populated area (gutted or cheap arcade cabinets are hard to come by around here).

I'm having second thoughts on what I thought to be a steal. It is completely gutted and in not that great condition, a lot of the paint is off or coming off, etc.

If anyone wants it, here is the link http://dallas.craigslist.org/tag/614076634.html

My home only has enough room for one cab max, so I don't want to make a dedicated machine, which is what this one deserves, so I'm going to hope one of you guys picks it up :)

Same here. I had to drive an hour down to Wichita Falls, TX just to get mine.

Since that's in Arlington, DEFINITELY hold out.
There are a LOT of good cabinets in the DFW/A region.
Don't settle for that one.

Where would you recommend I look in the DFW area?

Man, I see stuff from DFW on ebay all the time being pratically given away.
Look there and keep checking craigslist.
Also, ask on KLOV. That's how I found my Track and Field in Wichita Falls. I drove down from Oklahoma to get it.
