Try this and see if it helps:
Quote
Problem: (USB Only) Board appears not to work until WinIPAC is run every time following reboot. Yellow exclamation marks in Control Panel, Device Manager.
This is a rare Windows XP problem (fixed in Vista), and is caused by a registry error. It is suspected that this problem occurs if the board is regularly swapped from one USB port to another, or different board versions used on the same PC.
Ensure you are using the latest version of WinIPAC (March 2007) which has a permanent workaround for this problem. Installing the latest version should cure the problem with no further action needed.

It's from this page:  http://ultimarc.com/ipac2.html

Good luck and post if you still have problems.  Or send an email to Andy at Ultimarc.  His customer service is top notch.

hi, thanks for the info. i had tried this in the past, and retried it since your suggestion, but still no luck.
when i use the newest winipac 1.2.146, i  get a device successfully programmed message, but it does not program any buttons. (completely lifeless control panel)

if i use an older version of winipac 1.2.138, it will program the buttons, until i power down my computer, but i have to reprogram each time i restart.

both green led's are lit solid green.

i am using windows 2000 with service pack 4 installed.
this is a spare computer that i am using, but please note, it has worked on this computer flawlessly in the past.

i am using the usb connection, and have tried alternate ports with no luck.

any more suggestions?  ...thanks in advance.sparky
