French prostitute of the mame world.
« on: March 20, 2008, 11:29:01 pm »
Well maybe not that bad, but heres my shady arcade cabinet that I'm building from scratch.

shes trying to be a nintendo cab.

Sure I'd go back and do certain aspects a little differently, but we're enjoying our time together. It's been, uh, educational.

Looks a little rough around the edges tonight, but tomorrow I'm going to sand down the bondo covering up the screw holes. I also plan on sanding down the remaining first coat of paint that didn't work out.

I'm trying to go by the jakobud plans. There is one thing thats screwing me up though - The wood piece that the bezel sits on. Is there a certain way to measure that out and set it?

Also, I cannot find a nintendo lower bezel bracket anywhere, is there a universal (L shaped) bracket i can put in it's place? Either thick t-molding like plastic or metal? I guess L-molding?

Also, in another thread there was question of how to mount the cp. I'm wondering if anyone has a photo example of how they locked their cp in place.
I had two piece of wood mounted flush against the interior-side wall with the cp sitting on top velcro'ed to the two pieces, but It just wasn't working for me.

That's starting to look like quite a nice cab already.

You can use a combination of a control panel latch and a striker. Usually two of those on the sides of the CP.

You'd need some way to reach those latches though. Usually through the coin door, but since you don't have that, maybe through the back? Would be annoying though.

Doesn't look bad at all! You will be suprised what difference a lick of paint and a populated control panel will make.

As for 'L-moulding', I'm not sure where abouts you are from but in the UK you can get 90 degree aluminum section from B&Q fairly cheap. The range we have is from about 1/2" to about 1" and is about 1mm thick and as its aluminum its easy to cut and drill etc.  Try your local hardware store.

Thanks, the latches are exactly what I've been looking for! I figured there was something like this (as I did notice my dk cp does have the strikers.)

Theres also a routed groove in the front, is that where the control panel retainer slips in? http://www.mikesarcade.com/cgi-bin/store.pl?sku=CPRETAINERN

check out the molding between his marquee and bezel, this is what I was thinking what I said  L- Molding. Any ideas? It looks as if it would work for the bottom bezel lip.

Thanks you guys, I'm glad I came here!

That would be a marquee retainer.  head over to the BST forum and give divemaster a look.  he can get almost anything from Happ and I am sure that is on his list.  If no shoot him a PM and he can get it for you.

Thanks for letting me know about DiveMaster! I purchased a few items I needed from him. Much better than going to multiple sources!

--

I started to sand the cabinet last weekend! Shes looking much, much better. Can't wait to receive the cabinet latches and get a rough idea of how it locks in place. Curious, should  I put two piece of wood on the sides of the cp for support? Kind of like making a frame to have the cp sit on. Or do you think that the control retainer I ordered + the latches would be enough?

I'm now in the works to buying a pac-man machine that needs a new monitor/chassis.

check it out:

various questions i asked him in which he responded-
"1.  I would say that there is some wood damage (splitting cracking) but not swelling. I have another cab that has swelling and it is nothing like that. Inside, the base of the cab is dusty. I did ask the repair guy if I should vacuum it out and he told me definately not. I was told the dust does not hurt anything and basically I would probably screw something up by cleaning it up. The board on the site is clean. Bezel has some sections that are peeling but in decent shape. Glass is in great condition as is the marquee graphic and glass (or plexi, whatever it is).

2.  When you boot you hear audio and I can play the game. The game is set to free play.  The coin door is not hooked up (all wires and connectors are there). I did play the game for a couple of levels. If you hit the side of the cab just right you get the screen to come back, but it is shakey.

<vertical sync issue>
3. Turn on the cab, single white line down the middle of the screen. Hit the cab, or tap on monitor housing and the screen will appear and then return to single verticle line. Screw with it enough and you can get the picture to stay for a while but it is shakey and off color.

4. Monitor is not moving. It is very secure. I had to transport it the  same way <laying down> and there were no problems."

decent for $300?
I couldn't search/find any good pac-man restoration sites/ threads.
Anyone have a link I could have missed?
