Need Bezel Ideas
« on: March 18, 2008, 02:51:49 pm »
I am about 95% done with my cabinet.  It has been in the same state for quite some time (read "year or two").  What I need is some ideas on what to do for a bezel.

Currently I have a 27" Sony TV that I am wanting to hide.  Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Unless it's an arcade monitor, it probably wouldn't be a perfect fit.

They would have to make too many, or only do custom jobs.
It's too difficult to do it for every type of TV and computer monitor.

I bet the Happ bezel would be pretty dang close.  The problem with most TV's is that you can't adjust the horizontal and vertical spread of the picture.  With a pc monitor, you can make the pic fit the bezel.

I have a file with the Happ 27" bezel measurements at home.  I'll post it for you.  Maybe it will do the job.

I was thinking about the Happ's Bezel but didn't want to spend the money on something where shipping cost twice as much as the item itself and may not work.

Foam core board and poster board
Combined they work wonders.
About $4.00-6.00

And many original cabs had black poster board bezels.  Pole Position for example.

In the case of my cabinet, there's not much room between the monitor and the plexi, so I just have a black foam core board, plus black posterboard with my art/instructions on it. No room for wood.
Plus, posterboard has been used since the beginning on a lot of machines.

here's what I did that looks great -- get black, foam, pipe insulation from Lowe's (or HomeDepot).  It wraps around the pipe and has some adhesive that joins the foam into a cylinder.

Cut the stuff in half lengthwise so you have a half-cylinder.  use the adhesive to stick the foam to the side of your monitor.  the foam makes a smooth black bezel.

For my cocktail, it works perfectly.  (and cheap)

i just taped off the screen area and spray painted the back side of my plexiglass.  this gives you a very glossy finish that looks great.

i ordered a happs bezel. since my tv wasn't as much of a bubble as a monitor, i just ordered their flatter one. i had very very little modification to make. i just had to trim the widthXheight. But, I always have to do this even with dedictaed arcade cabs, so nothing new.

I have a rotating LCD, so I'm gonna try a two prong approach, one sheet of black contruction paper border attached to the monitor and one taped to the smoked bezel glass.  It's gonna be tough to get all the bordering and circles right.
