Newbie greeting and question
« on: March 18, 2008, 12:43:46 pm »
Hey Guys- First time poster here. First of all, just wanted to say how cool it is that there's such a vast resource and wealth of knowledge here....Very cool!

OK- So I'm about as green as you can get to all of this and need some guidance: I just picked up my first cabinet..... A Phoenix cabinet that was converted to SNK's Guerilla War (JAMMA) at some point (LS-30 rotarys still intact!)......Scored it for a whopping $15. Being that my ultimate grail title is Ikari Warriors, and after a lot of mulling over my options on which way to go with this project (originally wanted to do a "fake" dedicated Ikari since I scored the original PCB, marquee & bezel) I've decided to use my old Pentium 3 PC that has pretty much the entire working MAME collection on it to do a MAME to JAMMA cabinet for the sake of space efficiency and variety for guests. Anyway, here's my first question: I was originally going to design a new CP that made use of both the LS-30s (essential for me, obviously) and a set of Happ 8-ways to cover all other vertical classics. I then realized that Happ has their own rotarys, which got me wondering......Could I just use those for everything and have a less cluttered/more streamlined CP? What do you all think?

A 2 player cp with 4 sticks will be very crowded.  If your holy grail is the LS-30s then use those.  They are 8-way sticks you don't need to use the rotational feature with them.  I have them for players 3 and 4 on my 4 player CP except on rotary games which they then become players 1 and 2.

If your looking to cover as much as possible and to be as streamlined as possible with one set of sticks, consider Happ 49-ways with Floyds rotary hack - sell your LS-30s for good $$ to save on the initial $ outlay for a 49-way set up.
