Connecting RCA jack speakers to spring-clamp style stereo

Is there a preferred method to do this? I'm trying to get rid of most of what is in my basement for the finish job but want to keep one stereo active for the work... what I have left is a modern stereo, spring clamp style ports, and some good old speakers with an RCA connector. I know I could cut the end off an RCA cable and separate the two conductors but somehow it seems there may be a better way.

you could cut the female ends off of a y adapter instead.

Hrm... good idea, but I'd need the genders reversed, and I've never seen that item. I'll give a shot to just separating the conductors and see if that works. The inner conductor seems awfully thin but who knows, it does work inside the cable.
