Board repair shops..Centipede?
« on: March 14, 2008, 04:04:07 pm »
Hi guys & gals,

Finally diagnosed that the problem with my Centipede is with the logic board.  Where is the cheapest place to send it to get it repaired or replaced?  So far the top one is Mike's Arcade at $60 + shipping...

For all the techies:  RAM is all okay, ROM is okay, it's blowing out resistors.  I replaced 25 of them, powered it on and still the same high pitched noise.  Power going into the board is fine (metered and locations checked!).  Power from the video connector on the green circuit is 3.2V when it should be 0.2...

What caused this?  The "smart" ARII sent out +14V on the +5V line.

It may not be the board.  Could be that you need to rebuild the ARII and mod it.  Bob Roberts sells a kit to rebuild the ARII.  www.therealbobroberts.net

Here's an article to explain the sense mod:

The sense mod has been done and the ARII has been rebuilt with Bob Roberts kit.  I even went to the trouble of replacing & rebuilding (with Robert's kits) the ARII and the ISO power block.

So, where to send it?  It's a prestine board, never touched before I replaced the resistors that blew.  No broken traces, etc.

We can repair the board, but it's $85 plus shipping.  Not sure who does them for less.

Here's our information:

Am I reading the page wrong?:  145 (purchase) - 85 (trade in) = $60?? + shipping

Yes, it's $85 for repair or trade-in (board swap).  $145 to purchase.  So, the broken board is worth $60 in trade towards a purchase.

Ah, thanks for the quote Mike!

Can any other shop beat it?  Anyone?  Chime in.

Not if you want it done right 100% the first time.  Fast shipping, and some kind of warranty.

If you are not into those things than go with someone else.  Not busting your chops, just saying that this is one of those times you get what you pay for.

I've read the sense mod is pretty useless. It "hides" poor contacts to the PCB. I'm not modding my ARII's.
