Anybody got spare webspace?
« on: May 22, 2003, 05:22:10 pm »
Hi yall. I was looking for some free spare web space to host my MAME project. I'm not sure exactly how much I would need, but it probably wouldn't be a whole lot since my project is almost complete, anyways.

I just want the world to see it. I've been on here for nearly a year, and nobody has seen what I've done.

I don't like those generic, free web hosts like geocities cuz they throw in all their own pop-ups and stuff.

Anybody got and space or suggestions? I would sign up with a host for a year, but I don't have the cash on hand. I would consider splitting with someone, though. Then we could have own our domain and everything.

Any ideas out there???

I have spare webspace and consider trades =P

rampy

EDIT: I'm looking for mostly Arcade, BYOAC related, or PC related trades.

It's "real" namebased hosting, i.e. you can have your own domain name, no popups...  I prefer to keep the space and bandwith smallish though 25- 50 megs of space / 1 gig bandwith per month.
EDIT ( it's a linux box with PHP, PERL, FP extensions (yech!), mysql db, etc etc FWIW )  I usually ask for around 5 beans a month paid in at least 6 month installments. *shrug*

*shrug* Could also do some sort of lay-a-way I guess =P

Well as of now I don't have so many parts for trade. I could probably make a 40GB hard drive available if I had to. How long would that last me (if that interests you)?

I don't need a really big site. Just something large enough to host my projects (This arcade machine should be the first of a couple of ideas I have.)

As for arcade parts, I should have a couple of joysticks and some red buttons becoming available soon, too.

I also have a virtually new portable MP3 player with 64MB built-in memory.

Any of that sound interesting to you?

I have some space as well if it doesn't work out with Rampy.  I can't promise you your own domain name, but I can provide a subdomain.  No popups/adds or anything, and plenty of space (500 meg or so).  Your own email account, CGI, etc.

That would be cool. Do you ask for any compensation?

If you have any spare arcade parts (can never have enough) that would definately be nice, but I'm flexible.

If there is enough interest, I may start an Arcade webserver service with the following features (per domain):

 - Your own domain name
 - 500mb disk space
 - 25gb monthly data transfer
 - Unlimited FTP accounts
 - Unlimited Email accounts
 - FrontPage Extensions
 - Windows 2000 servers with full support for ASP, Perl and ODBC database connectivity.
 - (possibly) 2 free sub-domains
 - Free customer support

I am thinking no more than $10  ??? per month and would accept Paypal as payment either monthly or yearly (with discount).

email me at weizened@bsci.com if interested.

if there is enough interest (at least 10 people), I will set this up.  I will be out of town for the weekend, but will answer any emails I get ASAP.

Thanks,

Sshado

Oh yeah, there are no pop up's or ad requirements either :)

Alan, if you don't *have* to have a vanity domain (which in the age of google isn't as important as it used to be) I'd recommend going with CGremakes' offer (how much Bandwith per month, or are you not restricting CG?)

Good luck and if anyone needs hosting that has arcade parts/etc or 5 beans/month (see my earlier post) i'd be glad to accomodate you.

Well globat.com offers the same features except 1000MB space and 50GB transfer for $7.50/mo. That would be a really great price. The point is I can't afford that right now.

Not to shoot myself (or others) in the foot.  But, again, if you didn't *need* a vanity domain name, tehre are "free" webhosts sans banner ads/popups.

I believe SirPoonga uses http://free.hostdepartment.com/ which is probably just fine for static HTML stuff... (I think even snaaaack is using it now too)

Webhosting as a business is cut throat, and not fun at all... I only "sub let" space on my server to offset to costs of running my main site(s) Ubercade & RandomDrivel

*shrug* YMMV

I can help.

check your PM.

Also to anyone else in need. I made this offer in the past, but here it is again.

Check my website www.humboldthosting.com and look at the Value Account. This is normally $8.95/month. I will give this to anyone for their MAME or Cabinet related site for $4.95 a month. Or if you want subdomain hosting, I could do it for $25/year.

I also like trades, if they appeal to me.

What about www.prohosting.com no pop up adds just a couple of smallish banner adds that you can get rid of for a one off fee of $19.95. That's got to be good. I'm using them by the way but my cab project is only just starting so no info on my site yet.
