ipac to consoles, anyone tried it?
« on: March 08, 2008, 10:02:09 am »
The ipac is a great solution for those who do not care about money or don't like de idea of soldering. It's easy and straightforward. On the other hand, PSX pad hack is becoming very popular now because it's cheap and you can use your panel in most consoles and PC via adaptors. This was a disadvantage for the ipac. Now, however, I've noticed that Andy has released a series of adaptors that lets you use your ipac with consoles. My question is: does this really work fine? I mean in terms of compatability and performance (no delays, etc.). If so, this might be the interface for my new panel. I would use it mainly with PC, but I also have a Dreamcast, and I'm thinking of buying a PS2.

I had a Logitech controller and got fed up with how crappy it was for playing fighting games, so I took it apart and did some piggyback soldering on the board and ran the wires to an old control panel that I had. I need to build a box for the panel, but it works pretty good. I bypassed all the adapter stuff and wired the new buttons directly to their board counterparts. Here is a video of what I am talking about. I might incorporate this method on my next project. All it will cost is about $20 for two logitech controllers. And perhaps a knowledge of circuitry is helpfull.

Current collection - 28 cabs, 4 pins. (32 machines and not enough room)

not to hijack, but that control mod is nice.  I am thinking of incorporating this into a swappable panel idea I have.  I am definitely going to look into this.
