Yoke: Molex & bumper questions...
« on: March 04, 2008, 10:21:40 am »
I'm trying to find a molex connector which I can plug my yoke into (I'd rather not cut off the original plug).  Does anyone know exactly what this plug is?  I can guess that it is a 12-way male Molex, but it looks different to the one pictured for example, here:

http://www.happcontrols.com/electrical_supplies/43025000.htm

See my pic for the plug I have.  Note the D-shaped hole in the middle on the right...the top/bottom left holes are like this also.

Secondly, when taking this yoke apart, some of the rubber bumpers fell apart as I'm sure must be common.  I know Ram Controls were making replacement parts for yokes including these bumpers, but I am not sure if they are trading atm (waiting for an email response).

Anyone know of a home-made option for fixing these bumpers? I tried some small tyres off of a model quad bike, which might work, but I think they will work themselves off eventually, as there is nothing to hold them onto the metal part firmly.

Hey Minwah

It looks like the Molex MLX series. Go to molex.com -> wire to wire overview then scroll down to MLX. That looks like the one.

Thank you :)

I think the one I have is this: http://www.molex.com/cgi-bin/bv/molex/jsp/products/datasheet.jsp?part=active/0050842122_CRIMP_HOUSINGS.xml&BV_SessionID=@@@@0739089663.1204645126@@@@&BV_EngineID=ccccadedhhkdfgkcflgcehedffgdfmk.0&channel=Products&Lang=english

I will check the measurements tonight to make sure this is the right one.

Worst case scenario (if cutting the plug isn't an option), just buy the female contacts that mate up to those and put them in one by one and tape it up good.  Not perfect, but protects the plug.

True....although if I can find the correct female pins then hopefully I'd be able to find the right plug.  I could cut the plug off, but it seems a shame as it has survived so long, so I am not going to!

Minwah - I'm after one of these connectors too (have an old yoke that needs repair and this would be a good way to connect it).

Farnell appear to sell but not stock the correct molex part (I think Molex  50842120 is the right one) - although they have a minimum order of 3000 which is useless (£600). Bob roberts site appears to confirm this part number, although its unclear if it comes with pins etc...

Let me know if you find it anywhere else, or if all else fails we could save on shipping from bob roberts....

I think #050842120 is the connector which is wired to the yoke. #050841120 is the connector for the 'cabinet' side.  Do you need both?  I am sure from the description it comes as a kit with both connectors, including pins from Bob Roberts.

I would be happy to get it from Bob Roberts, a good guy to deal with, and at least we can be sure of getting the right thing!

50-84-2120 is the receptacle, 50-84-1120 is the plug (plug has the D-shaped pins, receptacle does not)

At least I think I read that right: This pdf has diagrams...

www.mouser.com/catalog/628/1174.pdf

Either way, the bob roberts set includes the lot, pins too, so I'm up for bagging one.

Yep that makes sense...it is the 'receptacle' which is wired to the yoke.

I replaced the bumpers on mine with vinyl tubing pushed over the original metal pieces.

The rubber pieces that are screwed between the front and back halves, that stop the yoke from rotating too far on the X-axis.
On most unrestored yokes, they turn to a tar-like substance that gets all over anything that it touches.
