I have a supergun supernova and started collecting pcb's. unfortunately, I don't have the money nor able to find all the pcb's I want to play, so I wanted to look at a PC based alternative. At first I wanted to connect a shuttle PC to the supernova (I still don't know how) and do it that way, but then I saw a unit on ebay called a Gamebox that supposedly "supports 2000 games". Now, I know these units are looked down upon within the arcade/MAME community, but the apeal of it to me is the fact that it runs off of solid state memory (CF card I guess), and that it has a JAMMA connector on it.

Can someone with one of these units tell me if it's any good and maybe how it compares to a PC? I really don't need to run the newer, high end games like wargods or NFL Blitz, but I mostly wanna play 80's and 90's 2D games such as all the Neo Geo games, Mortal Kombat Games, NBA game, some lightgun games, and CPS1/CPS2 games.

thanks!

Goz

I have a GameBox and some Babystar's they are all basically P4's running an emulator in Linux with JAMMA connectors. They run the 80's and 90's games especially the Neo Geo stuff pretty well as well as most everything else of that genre.

thanks Goz, that was very useful. I really want to make good use of my supergun supernova. How do games run on a gamebox compare to actual PCB's (I know nothing can really be 100% 1:1 perfect but...)? I wanna run this on my RGB monitor. Is there a Gamebox support site? I tried searching with google but really nothing comes up. I'm gonna need more info such as how to set one of these up, and what MAME builds are most compatible.

thanks!

oh, where did you get yours, ebay?
