Tried it.... Failed.... No vista specific drivers, XP drivers fall over.

Light gun support in Vista is a no go so far, I've been doing a little research and the best option may be the Wii remote hack, from what I've seen and read it works in Vista (64bit too it appears) and being LED based it will work with any type of display.

There are plenty of styles of Wii Remote adapters available to make in look and feel more like a gun, and while most are kind of ugly, I'm sure in time someone will come up with a mod to mount the Wii Remote electronics in a Namco gun shell.

That's pretty bad not to support vista a year after it was released. There must be some real serious hurdles with vista that they're having trouble with. :dunno

EMS has drivers for their topguns on their private dev forum. They also have some experimental linux drivers in the works too. EMS is the only chance I see right now for light guns. Give me a couple hours and I might have some links. In the middle of trimming my vista dvd so it behooves me as well:-)

k just got back from the ems forums, and it looks like they are pretty content with not releasing drivers for their Topgun. They do have a topgun2 in the works though that will most likely have more support across the board, along with guncon ps3 support. Still looks a long way off. So stupid I could poop.

With all of the lightguns available for sale on Happ's website, I'm REALLY surprised that nobody has developed an encoder board to hook them up to a PC like we have with the I-Pac, and Opti-Pac type boards.  Does anybody have any plans for developing such a board?

Act Labs guns already connect directly to a PC. The issue is not the connection it's the lack of Vista drivers that work. After a year of Vista being out, still no drivers that work with it.

Yeah, but I also honestly don't like the look of the Act Labs gun.  I would like to have the option of using the shotgun style gun, or other style guns that I see on various arcade machines.  It kind of sucks when you are limited to just one or two sytles of guns and that's it.  I like having a variety of items and that's why I'm just a bit shocked that nobody has developed an interface for arcade guns yet.

But it's not cheap and is designed for cabinet manufacturers who already use PC's for the majority of cabinets now released.

Awesome!  I can't believe I had never heard of them before!  Honestly, the price isn't that bad considering all of the options it gives you.  Maybe if I get the nice pay-raise I'm hoping for it can become a part of my cab.   ;D  I see that the minimum resolution it works on is 640x480x60Hz, however, so I'm not sure if it will work on all of the games out there.

The problem is that you'd have to write dedicated software to read them. AFAIK Nobody here has tried them out because of the high price. After you've bought that interface you still need to buy a set of guns. Namco Guns (new) run at about $500+ a set.  Guncon2PC or Wingun may handle the input, given that these interfaces are an HID Device. However there is no guarantee that they will work, because they are designed to be used with the custom software of a new commercial cabinet design.

I may have to be the guinea pig who tries this out.  However, it won't be for a while since I'm not close to being done with my cab yet.

If someone would release 64 bit drivers for any gun I would jump up and down (and maybe even offer to give birth to their children ;D)
