Coin Unit Question
« on: February 24, 2008, 02:03:28 pm »
I'm looking to replace the coin rejector mechanism in my Rockola 443, I'd like to replace it with an acceptor that will take $1 Canadian ("loonie") coins. I see various Coinco models on Ebay, but I'm not sure which one is right or if any could be make to fit a vintage jukebox.
  Any advice would be appreciated.

Originally, most jukeboxes used a coin chute (a.k.a. mech) four coin unit made by National Rejectors, Inc. (made of gray painted metal). Rock-olas used the 5-10-25-50 cent version. The coin switch assembly had push on terminals so you could swap the various 5-10-25-50 cent switch connections around to use a Coin Acceptors, Inc. (a.k.a. Coinco) coin chute. At the time, Coinco had manufactured two different coin chutes for Rockola. One was a brownish-tan metal unit that took 5-10-25-50 like the National Rejectors one did, except that nickels, dimes, and quarters all came out different exit holes than the Nationals. That's why you could swap the coin switch wires around. The other Coinco chute was made of modern tan Noryl plastic but only took 5-10-25 cents. That's the one currently available today. It's the Coinco 790 series coin acceptor and it's still manufactured today, but in two versions: one for vending machines and one for jukeboxes. Contact Coinco to find out the exact model number you need for a Rockola. I think it's the same one that's used in the Rowe CD jukeboxes.

I have a chance to buy a Coinco 9300LD.... I think it's designed for vending machines, but couldn't it be modified to fit a jukebox? I'm pretty handy at that sort of thing.

No. The Coinco 790 series coin acceptor is mechanical. Contact Coinco for the correct model/version number you need.
