Arcade VGA2 driver issues- SOLVED!
« on: February 22, 2008, 11:10:34 pm »
I just received an Arcade VGA2 (PCIe version) from Divemaster and was attempting to install it when I ran into the following problem while installing the Windows XP drivers (no cd supplied so I downloaded it here:  http://www.ultimarc.com/avgadrivers.html

I followed the instruction on Ultimarc's website:  http://www.ultimarc.com/avgainst.html

I get this error message during the install:
"Severe - This display driver is not compatible with the display adapter(s) installed in your system"

Any ideas on what I should do?  I disabled the onboard graphics adapter and uninstalled the NVidia Drivers before installing the Arcade VGA 2 card so I am at a loss as to why it is not working.

Perhaps I have the wrong drivers?  Are the drivers on the link above for the ArcadeVGA and NOT the ArcadeVGA2?

Not sure if this matters or not, but I am running Tiny XP Beast edition.  When I uninstalled the Nvidia drivers it should have installed basic VGA drivers, but I'm not sure if Tiny XP has them or not.  Should I manually install a standard VGA driver from my Windows XP Pro CD first and then install the Arcade VGA2 drivers?

Thanks in advance!

It could be your windows install. Those tiny windows hacks are known to mess a lot of things up, especially if something you need isn't installed.

Anyway, I'd make a backup, and then probably try to install anyway :)

And yeah, you could also try changing it to standard VGA see if that helps.

BTW, you could also try contacting ultimarc themselves and seeing if this is a known problem that they can suggest solutions to.

Yeah, I'm sure it's something quirky.  The main thing I wanted to confirm was that I had the correct drivers for my card.

I have the Arcade VGA version 2 - (PCIexpress.)

I downloaded this file:  AVGA_9200_XP2K.zip from http://www.ultimarc.com/avgadrivers.html

Is this the correct file to download?

Kevin Steele from RetroBlast reviewed it here and names the chipsets used:  http://retroblast.arcadecontrols.com/reviews/UltimarcArcadeVGA2-1292007-01.html

Is that the correct file for version 2?  Version 2 has the ATI X550 chip.  Version 1 has the ATI 9250 chip.  When I tried installing the drivers manually I only saw the 9200 pop up.

That's why I'm suspecting that I have the wrong drivers.  Anyone have the CD posted somewhere that came with their ArcadeVGA2 (make sure it's the PCIe version) that I can download?

I'm ready to send this thing back for a refund and leave my arcade the way it was.  It worked perfectly without it.

Just as I suspected, I had the incorrect drivers.  I dropped Andy from Ultimarc a line and here is how he responded:

"The drivers must be the ones on the CD. But if the card is a recently-purchased one the drivers can be downloaded from www.ultimarc.com/avga2.zip

These should be OK.

Regards

Andy"

These new drivers are 15mb in size.  The one posted on the prior link was 25mb in size.  I gave them a shot and... success!

I'll have to make sure that everything works properly now that I finally got the drivers in.

Thanks DeLuSioNaL . I have tried removing the ATI drivers (using the removal tool) and re-installing them but I still get the same problem . There is only one set of drivers listed for Win98 and that's the one's I'm using . I bought the card around 2004 and I'm pretty sure it's a AVGA (AGP) .
 Anyway , I've had enough . I'm going to install W2K as 98 is driving me nuts ! :)
