MP3 Tag Editor and Lyric Finder
« on: February 20, 2008, 07:38:35 pm »
Well, I thought I would take a break from setting up my mame cabinet with a handfuld of emulators.  Wow, there are so many configuration files to deal with.  I am getting it done slowly.  I need a break from mame/mala config, so I thought I would tackle my mp3 music collection.  They are in a world of hurt right now.  I am going to say 80 percent of my music collection, either do not have any tagging information/cover art and or the information is incorrect.  Thus far I found a nice utility called Tag & Rename that has been of great help.  Couple questions if you don't mind.

First, is it possible to somehow import lyrics in with the mp3 file?  If yes, what program is suggested to do so.  I have found a couple of applications that play lyrics while your listing to your mp3 song.  I think they pull the lyric information from an online server and they may not have the option to tag the song with the lyric.  Any information on this would be great.  I was hoping that I could embed the lyrics in the mp3 file somehow.

Second, what is the most common directory structure to use for mp3 songs?  I know alot of the BYOAC members that design their own jukebox application all have their own directory specifications.  In general though, is there a standard structure?

Third, this question might get some the most opinion responses.  Is it best to embed cover art into the file and or as a separate jpg file?  I know if each song is embeded with a cover art, then the file is going to expand in size exponentially.  Hard drive space is not of importance to me.  I am more than willing to purchase a larger disk drive if needed.  I would think that embeding the mp3 songs with cover art and tags would make the songs very portable.  On the other hand, scrolling through 20,000 songs in a jukebox application might be slower.

Question four, I have a good size collection of music videos as well.  I have had a chance to do much research on jukebox applications, but was wondering if someone could respond with a jukebox application that support most if not all the specifications below.  I was asked to check out freebox thus far.  I will jot that down and play with it here soon.

Touchscreen capable
Possible online music streaming
Has to play multiple formats of mp3 music
Has to play music video files
User Friendly (I like the ease of an application by the name of The PC Jukebox)

I am sure there are other services that I would like to have, but can't think of anymore at the moment.  I know, can't have everything right,  ;)....

Last question, recommend another nice mp3 tag editor similiar to Tag&Rename application functionality?  What does everyone here use?  I found a website called allmusic.com that has been of help for those cover art files that I was not able to obtain from the Tag&Rename application.  Surely there are more websites similiar to.  Thanks,
