help! ready to kick my KICK
« on: February 09, 2008, 11:29:23 am »
So I posted earlier on that my KICK issue was displaying a ROM error when powered up, and some generous folks here offered to help me out with new ROMs. But, after removing the boards from the game, both the boards AND the ribbon cables were looking a little shot. So I decided to go with a newer set of boards that someone advised me they had for sale. The boards came this week and looked really purdy- I was so excited. I installed them and the game powers up, but now no sound. I wrote the seller and they advised that everything was 100% working when the boards left their place. So, I'm left with the following questions:

1. is it possible something came loose during shipping?
2. is there a possible compatibility diff between what was in the game originally and the newer boards?

First things first, I cut the purple wire inside the game- I really do believe the guy when he says everything worked well, b/c the parts DO look really clean. Wondering at this point if I need a better power supply or something? Any feedback will be great.

The weird thing is, when I powered it up for the first time last year, EVERYTHING worked: sound, video, and even the marquee. I powered it off that day, and went to power it back up that night, and had a ROM error. I didn't have time to work with the game then (July) so I put it in storage until now. Now, I have a new boardset that I was told is tested and working 100%, but I have no sound and the marquee doesn't light up either. I switched out the starter in it last night, and still nothing. And I don't even hear a pop in the speakers. I haven't checked the fuses yet, but could the power supply have just waited till now to croak? And if it did partially, would I still have video? I'm really starting to hate this game, which sux b/c the one time it DID work 100%, I totally fell in love with it.
